I assume Isabelle has an extreme fanbase because she feels personal to the player themselves, subtly requesting for things like seashells, there hasn't really been that many AC characters who isn't a villager to have a fanbase outside of Nook and possibly Kap'n, even though im not that much of an AC fan, Isabelle just seemed pretty endearing.
It's surprising that Isabelle even appeared in SSB4's promotional material in chibi despite the game being in production far longer than New Lead was; feels like Nintendo knew that she'd have such a warm reception that they added her early.
