I was imagining just ... them having a Very Unstable Form, that sort of never stays still. Like if you are looking at That Which Is Not too long (particularly in nightmares)sometimes their form just... becomes impossible. Briefly sort of 'coming apart' into weird tentacles, bones, teeth, spines, and eyes that all look like ink in water, but are somehow solid, before coming back together again into a 'person shape'. ... and leaving it unclear whether the 'person shape' is really the entity at all, or if it's something else, like those strange floating eyes, the tentacles, or something entirely different that's hiding unseen.
