Description "I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song..."

This was on the ceiling of a chapel of a FreeMasonic propertie in Sintra Portugal, Quinta da Regaleira built beetween 1904 and 1910, and it's the first of my series of shots from this place..

You have probably seen this symbol a million times in Rock bands Albuns, etc, although like every symbol, it has a specific historical context associted to the meaning.

I'm not by far an expert, but from what i read and the guide told me, the FreeMasonry is a ( not-so-secret nowadays ) society that supposedly descends from ostrcized members of Knights of the Temple Order..

For them in this stage, Science was supposed to be the key to the understanding of the universe, and even to enable men to grasp its essential meaning.Like so, this symbol is a mixture beetween the Famous Knights of the Temlar cross, and the Illuminati ( a secret society historians believe to be extint since 1800, wich many members infiltrated the Fremasonry in the early days to spread theyr range of influence ) Symbol of enligthenment.
The Iluminatti were scientists that grouped up to subversively oppose to the persucussion of the roman church to scientific theorists.

The symbol of the eye represented to them the "all seing eye of god" or like some historians say, the revelation of a higher truth. The cross represented to the masonry, the four elements of nature ( fire, water, air, earth ) So it is believed that the conjugation of the two is a representation of the fundamental pillar of the FreeMasonic Pantheist vision of divinity. Nature being god, while man through science unveils the secrets of god.

It's an interesting conception no?!

I'm not a Freemason (I'd like to be one day, maybe), but from I've researched previously I think you may have some things confused. Most importantly, the Freemasonry don't have a specific "Pantheist" concept of God, because the Freemasons as a whole don't share any religious ideas; the only thing religious about them is that a belief in some kind of God is required for entry into Freemasonry.

Also, I think your idea of the Illuminati is the fictionalized version made by Dan Brown for "Angels and Demons." They were more about politics, rather than science, and were based in Bavaria.

All that aside, a beautiful photo.

Actually, it's a Christian symbol. Look up the painting, "Supper at Emmaus" (Cenna in Emmaus); it was used long before the Masons adopted it.

By "Luciferian," I assume you are referring to the Leo Taxil Hoax?

haha cool, illuminatus... here we call them "Freimaurer", as they came from germany. i guess augsburg or somewhere in bavaria. they build all those beautiful churches and left their signs...the eye is also a symbol for god and the pyramid for christian trinity, like holy ghost, father, and stuff, i dont remember. freimaurer also had many egyptian symbols, as they were not really christians, many of the egyptian philosophy, you find in christianity today. like- eye of horus, a god from old egypt...sorry if i bothered you...

Interesting shadows and lighting on this one.

Curiously, there is a Masonic temple across the street from Philadelphia's city hall. Also, the symbol of the eye is on the back of the American $1 bill. It's placed at the top of a pyramid. Many of the early American politicians were masons.

That's true, a lot of them were. Oddly enough, Ben Franklin was the only Mason who was involved in designing the Great Seal, and his designs weren't accepted; so it was designed by non-masons.

Thanks..the lighting came from the doorway and it was morning, so it hitted the ceilling horizontally, thats mainly what caught my eye.

Yeah, Dan Brown writes about that on Angels and Deamons, it's an interesting fact and makes sense. They probably saw in the "new world" a lot of potencial and an ocean away from the grasp of Rome's influence..
