Description So, yeah, everybody seems to have done this already, and now I’m going to add to the meme-frenzy: The Influence Meme!

It was so much fun doing this – and it was really a kind of eye-opening thing for me myself as well. You start thinking about the main influences on your art and the things you like. I can only advise you to try it out, too. You’ll learn something about yourself.

Here are some explanations to my influences:

1. Musicals: Musicals have been my biggest influence in practically everything. They ruled quite a lot of my school days. I was in a musical “club”, if you want, and we dedicated a big share of our free time to dancing/singing/loving musicals.
This picture shows a scene of my favourite musical of all times, Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires). It’s based on a movie by Roman Polanski.

2. Dungeons and Dragons (Role Play Games, R.A. Salvatore): I was quite a nerdy role play game girl when I was younger, and the art of rpg handbooks and material had a big influence on my art.
The picture here is the cover of a book by R.A. Salvatore, my favourite fantasy author. It’s a book for the rpg Dungeons & Dragons. If you can tell me to which book it belongs, you get a cookie!

3. Sailor Moon: I’m an 80s kid. I loved the early 80s animes, and Sailor Moon was my favourite. My fav character was/is Sailor Saturn.

4. Arthurian tales: The stories of Arthur, the Round table and his knights have bee sparking my fantasy as long as I can remember. Today, I’m writing my thesis on Arthurian literature in the Middel Ages.

5. Old School Goth: The really old school goth style has to be my favourite style of all times. I started wearing black when I was 15/16, and I have never stopped until now.

6. Cyber Goth: One of my newer loves. Even though I’ve never been a cyber girl myself, I love the style and everything about it, the colours, the hair… The pictures shows DA’s goddess of awesome cyber style, ~Twi99y
7. Zombies (+ in this case Andy LaPlegua) _Nothing to explain. Zombie goodness + the singer of Combichrist =

8. Faeries & Celtic mythology: LOVE it! Can’t get enough of fairy-tales. The artists behind this masterpiece is Brian Froud, faerie king and one of the best artists ever!

9. Ballet. Yep. I love ballet.

10. Tattoo art: It should be obvious in my pics that I enjoy tattoos/tattoo art.

11. Dita von Teese: She is a GODDESS!

12. Captain Tsubasa: Another favourite 80s anime of mine. Watched it religiously.

13. Nintendo. NINTENDO RULES! I still have my NES at home. I have never gotten accustomed to 3D stuff, though. I’m a pixel lover.

I love the influence in your artwork for 80's fashion and nostalgia (carebears, my little pony, sailor moon). I'm just glad I'm not the only one on earth that still digs all those 80's cartoons.

I'm a total 80s child! I was born in 83 and comics/cartoon were my love. I still enjoy old-school cartoon series. I can spend hours just watching Sailor Moon on Youtube.

sorry, dass ich zu faul bin mir das alles zu übersetzen geschweige denn zu lesen ^^

aber bei was genau, haben dich diese dinge beeinflusst?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElectronicRainbow In reply to AlessA-Angel [2010-09-03 18:13:34 +0000 UTC]

The old animes were the best! Even though when I was little, we never called them animes - they were just cartoon series.

D&D!!! I'm almost 32 and I still get in a game or two once every few months...and hey I dont live with my parents and I'm married...lol. But yes D&D is near and dear to many artists hearts.
Brian Froud is just amazing. He and his wife are just awesome. They are the king and queen of fay kind. That they both worked on two of my childhood favorite movies The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Toby from Labyrinth is their son Toby Froud, I thought that was cool.

I looove D&D (and I'm 27! ) As well as a number of other RPGs like Vampire, Shadowrun, DSA. I really enjoy the books based on them as well!
Brian Froud has to be one of my favourite artists ever. His books were a little hard to get in Germany, but I brought them with me from England and I treasure them. Labyrinth was such an awesome movie.

Thanks! I could have listed a hundred more, it was so hard to pick! But I really discovered a lot about what actually influences me and my art. It was pretty interesting!

Aww Dungeons & Dragons! It must be one book on Drizzt no? It's a great serie ^^
It's nice to see your inspirations

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElectronicRainbow In reply to Lergahin [2010-09-02 21:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, it's a book of the Drizzt-series. (The German one, though, I have no idea how the cover of the English one looked.)

I don't remember the titles XD
I have the french edition and I'm not sure it was done by the same artist. (the first ones were ugly)

ElectronicRainbow In reply to Lergahin [2010-09-03 12:42:00 +0000 UTC]

The first books of the German edition were quite ugly, too. This cover is actually the nicest.

Lergahin In reply to ElectronicRainbow [2010-09-03 13:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Did Drizzt was tanned instead of being ebony like? Cause it was like that in the fist books XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElectronicRainbow In reply to Lergahin [2010-09-03 18:02:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he looked kind of tanned instead of being really dark back/blueish skinned as I imagined him. :/ I didn't like the early covers.

Lergahin In reply to ElectronicRainbow [2010-09-03 18:09:51 +0000 UTC]

So it seems it was the same artworks! Yeah I didn't like it at all, I thought that the artist didn't read the book XD
