It's an amazing drawing
Btw I would ask you a question about . Does he provide WIP ? I mean if he shows you a sketch previous before to coloring, couldn't you ask him to fix things you're not happy with ?
Generally, when I ask commission, I always ask to provide me WIP to be sure there are no mistakes.

I asked for it, and for a previous commission he did provide it. For this one he didn't give me anything until the final. I think he wanted to surprise me. It definitely is an awesome piece. I just am more of a fan of the upper-body and I like front more than the back. So this was really not my thing...

Hehe, I understand very well Thanks for your reply !
For my first commissions, I really liked to be surprised and result was good... but later, I had a lot of bad surprise when artists didn't respect at all my character So now I only commission artists who provide at least one WIP.

I get bummed out when I don't get a commission right, especially if I spent some real time on it adding all those extra little details which I see in this piece. It's actually a little mean that you even mention that he got stuff wrong and removed it from his gallery. It's like you're highlighting his failure... at least that's how I'd feel about it, and I don't think that's what you mean to do.

Not at all, I'm trying to let him know that I like the piece. I can like something overall without liking everything in it. Β
Honestly though, the commission process this time wasn't that favorable to me. Β I told him that I wanted to see a sketch so that I could adjust things. Β Instead, he surprised me with the final. Β I told him I liked the piece, though I had asked for a chance to give input. Β I pointed out the things I liked about it and the things I didn't like. Β I definitely respect his skill as an artist and said that next time I'd make sure to insist on a sketch. I'm sure it'll work out better if I commission him again.

He dropped the ball there, then. I never thought you were downing his work and your explanation makes sense.

At least you are already making 'bummed' jokes.
