I am impressed that a monster with eye-tentacles is able to use a bow.

Indeed. And were there D&D copyright issues for using the name "beholder" for this boss?
They also have owlbears in the game (with the right name) so I imagined that there would not be a problem.

For whatever reason, beholders are considered part of "product identity" for D&D/Wizards of the Coast. Even though back in the day, the liked to keep a lot of their stuff copyright-free so third parties could publish fully integrated material, the Beholder was always off-limits. At least, that's my understanding of it.

The mmorpg Tibia was forced to rename their beholders.
Because their beholders where able to summon skeletons, they went with "bonelords".

the first time i met the gazer i was actually going solo. For some reason no one joined my party that mission. I won but it was the single hardest boss fight i had for a very very long time.Β
