Kai said everything. Yes, I suggest you to get a photo and study the lighting (and shadow). No, I am not good at this.. I always need reference before and WHEN I work.

Colours are wonderful in this piece.. Nice effort of putting in as much as colour as you can.

hi there!

first off.. you have to more or less define a main lightsource.. and not just random blobs of shadow

i know theyre in open terrain, under a great big sky(prolly cloudless and all..) but still.. there can be mltiple light sources, but only one will always have the greatest effect on the shadows that defien the volumes of an object..

the colours are nice!(are they from photoreference?) the weakest thing about this image i feel is the proportions. if u look at it from a lineart point of view.. it lacks the proper definition of facial features like the way the guys mouth is awkward.. the females left eye isnt really in perspective with her head, etc etc

if u want cg practice.. pls get nicer lineart to begin with! it will help very much in learning how to understand your lighting (which to me is most important in any illustration.. i dunno ;p)

-too little hues/values, as a result its ahrd to pick out shapes and forms, it looks very ;graphical, very.. flat.

perhaps you would like to try to draw /colour something from life/photography/film.. it should help you understand how stuff looks in real life if you conciously open your mind to learn during the process.. and not just blindly follow colours and contours...
