Description

‘QUETZA’
( pronounced as “ket-sa”)
Also known as Quetzalcoatl or Kukulcan

The Orsian God of Wind

Known as the “Feathered Winged Serpent” and “Wind God” in the Mesoamerican (Aztec/Mayan ect) culture.

In her God Form, she can stand nearly 9 feet in height a just like most predatory serpents her entire body is just as lethal and powerful as her poisonous bite.

Unpredictable, provocative, twisted and quick to aggression, she’s a god that everyone must appease or pay the consequences.  She is egotistical and relishes in the thought that mortals both worship her and fear her.
And when she admires someone, everyone is curious to whether she truly admires or likes them…or wants to eat them. ( Could be both?)

With her vessel, Eagle , they both have a mutual love for games. While Quetza’s ‘play’ is more sadistic, cruel and could quite possibly be fatal, Eagle’s play is more fun, full of pranks and tomfoolery. ( And horrid puns…)

Out of all the Orsian gods, Quetza gets along with Poena- Dragon of Power (Poe) the best….probably because Poena has sadistic streak herself and desire to ‘punish’ anyone. ( they probably plot together…)

Artist’s notes:
Quetza’s character was based off a character in my 3rd Year Animated film called “Jinxed” The film was never finished but the character of my seductive but twisted “Sphinx” was tucked away ready to be revamped for another project- and thus Quetza was created.

Nice to see a wind/air character that's nasty and capricious in nature... And I adore her design!

I understand you have artistic freedom for your own characters so I don't want this to seem rude, I just want to ask as a fellow artist and writer and as a person who has studied into depth about Aztec Mythology, what made you decide to depict Quetzalcoatl as a Naga and Female?

Why should she not? Element seems to find barely any time to answer, so I just throw my own thought in.

Snakes are very curvy, curves are associated with the female Form, thats all that I can find right away.
Appart from that its probably just a matter of taste but I like female Nagas that much more due to it.
For manly forms a tall and proud Centaur seems better as a male Naga if you ask me.
Ultimately its just preference of course.

Ok I understand your point, ultimately it is ElementJax's choice what they want to do with their character, only Quetzalcoatl is already a character that is considered sacred to it's culture. If Element wanted to make this their own character then I don't see why not just make up their own wind deity, and I just want to be clear that I am not asking them to change it, I'm not upset with their choose either, but I want to help make people aware about the Aztec culture because it is very interesting and so few people know anything about it.
I can let go of this version of Quetzalcoatl being a girl and a Naga because he was know to have the power to Shapeshift, however Nagas are still a creature of Indian culture not Mesoamerican, but Questzalcoatl was absolutely not "egotistical and relishes in the thought that mortals both worship her and fear her." He was one of the kindest and most humble of the Aztec gods who represented the ideal of moral integrity and goodness, and he was the one most notable Aztec god who was absolutely opposed to the practice of human sacrafice, instead he only asked for simple offerings of food.

LOL. I heard Quetzalcoatl so often in my life yet I never bothered researching, if what you said is true then I guess I can take this one of the list.
And at the same time this should answer your question. People do not know better and in the end do not care.

What I had to find out inevitability was that its the name for the "Feathered Serpent" and from Serpent aka Snake -> people go straight to Naga.
Snakes are cool, but Naga are the elegant and sexy "extension" of Snakes for many people.
Nagas can be a fetish which I was once riding myself and I became very picky about them too.
This one for example has no "two Skins" that merge at the waist. No Humanskin part and scaly Snakeskin part.

I like it! That makes more sense for me. It makes them feel more "natural" yet many artists (who can just not draw that good ) keep the style of the "two Skins".

This answer another point too. People value different things.
Many people do not care about the skin-thingy and others just rip a cool name from an Original and do not care.
In the end you are quick to realize this is a fantasy Quatzecoatl (<- intentionally written as I think about the name most of the time ) and has no real connection to the original Aztec one.

And I knew that the Aztecs had this repulsive sacrifice thingy going on, so I am surprised to hear there was a kind god too.
Totally thought every single one would be indifferent or favouring the blood spilling.
The Aztecs from that time have vanished mysteriously. Who knows what they are doing now?

But since there are not that many people left in our world who care about the creation of "cheap ripoffs" guess the picture will shift over time until a new stereotype is found.
Just as Humanity always does. Once the Sun was God for the people. Now many follow the scientific explaination.
Who knows what the Humans in the year of 3000 think of the Sun?

Maybe they will be ruled by the Swinepeople and everyone thinks the Sun is just a fat star that has eaten too much? Who knows...

Well that was just the very basic information I gave you about Quetzalcoatl, I have been studying Aztec culture for about 5 years now and I am still even learning new things about them every so often so if you you are interested to learn more then don't scratch that off of your list just yet. If you want to learn more about Quetzalcoatl I have written down everything I know about him so far in a recent picture. Feel free to give it a read if you'd like, I spent a long night writing it.

Side note: The Aztecs did not just disappear mysteriously like the Mayans, their culture was destroyed when the Spanish Conquistadors came and invaded Mexico and forced the people to convert to Christianity. If there are any people practicing the Aztec religion today they would probably have had to practice it under the radar.

It's that lack of caring that I don't like because it is so easy to spread misinformation, which is why I have spent so long studying this culture, I'm working in a graphic novel based around Aztec mythology and I want to make it as accurate as I can to the original source.

ARGH it happened again and I switched Mayans with Aztecs in my head. Fu~ck not the first time it happened.
Well I will read it. But overall that is just Humanity. Everyone doing just the thing that they like.

For you its upholding original Scources of Wisdom. Keeping it clean so to speak.

Wanna know how I first came in contact with the name? VIDEOGAMES.
In Warcraft 3 there is (lol) a Unit that is named "Quetzalcoatl" and ironically it is one of the Units of "the Naga" back in the game.
So in that sense the circle has closed again. Nagas and Quetzalcoatl, lol.

Later then in "World of Warcraft" they brought a "Bloodgod" into the game called Hakkar.
Look at his appearance too! www.google.de/search?q=wow+Hak…
Yeah... more misinformation and suggestive influence on the mind when thinking about the original.

Portraying the original as "a bloodthirsty" cruel Reptilian God. Annunaki vibe much?
Maaaaaan the parallels, the parallels. It gets worse the more I think about it.
But off to the original I go... cannot do any harm.

I heard about that by the way that there are still Aztec out there but they are so closed off
from their ancient heritage that they cannot even read the texts and scriptures of their Ancestors.
Or maybe that is just wishful thinking from some kind of Mainstream Liarsmedia Network.
After all... " Old & Ancient "
holds very often connections to how to free yourself through freeing your mind.
"Vibration knowledge" and stuff as I call it.

I think most Religions are just poor misinterpretations from the original truth of the Universe.
But the less it has to do with our fucking Capitalist Ancestors the more its worth a look I guess.
School does not want to teach us how to be smart and independent.
But how to be a fucking Slave for the Market.

I took Ayahuasca too. Alltough I cannot recommend it, it was a very interesting experience.
For seekers of all kinds of inner knowledge and struggles.
A~hhh and off to the original text I am!

Where do i begin?

The amount of detail here is incredible and the color pallet is striking, very well done. The patterns on her tail was a nice touch. Honestly I could go on about practically every bit of this. The amount of detail you give to each of the dragon gods is staggering and very much praise worthy. I look forward to seeing the rest and am very much curious to how you design the other dragons.

Oh I shall. don't worry! I have to design her dragon form, and then I have the gods of fire, light, dark, thunder to design along with updating Earth and Power's design.

Extremely impressed here. The too-wide mouth gives her just the right amount of alien/other feel while letting her still stay within the boundaries of human beauty. The only spot that rough at all is how the wings attach to the body. The detail is incredible though. Coloration is striking and just adds to the beauty.

Yeah, its hard to see at this angle but the wings are between the splits of the hair ( her hair is like two long low pig-tails) So much feathers! distorting the view lol
