Golly bob howdy. Where do I begin.

First of all I guess I'll tell you why I did this - Beauty and the Beast is one of my top three favorite Disney films, if not the favorite if my obsession with it as a child is an indication. Belle's my Disney princess (although Mulan is a strong contender for my heart) and the Beast is rad. It's about time I did a for real tribute and not just the crappy one or two drawings of Belle I've uploaded in the past.

Now...this was supposed to be done about a week ago, but after powering through the sketching and inking phase I was feeling pretty burned out. Also, work. So because I didn't want to spend too much time on it, there are flaws. Lots and lots of little flaws sticking out everywhere and driving me crazy. But I'm only going to tell you the really big ones. :3

For one thing, there's the Beast himself. He's got some major sizing issues goin' on and that's because he was supposed to be more crouched than he is. In general, I should have shrunk Belle while I was sketching and that could have cured a lot of it. His face went through some work but I'll talk about that when I post the lineart.

Another big issue is the lighting of the day scene - notice how it's not nearly as dramatic and interesting as the night scene. That's because I did the day scene first, was like, oooo subtlety~~, and then I go do the night scene, freaking out, goin' oh maaan this is gonna look bad...and then it turns out better. Whoops. Tried tweaking the day scene, took away some of the subtle...didn't work out. Related to the day scene is the crappiness of Belle's skirt; I seemed to do that part last on every stage of this. It should have been more ruffly and dynamic, but it's not for various reasons (especially because originally, this whooole thing was going to look like stained glass and I just never updated Belle's skirt).

Finally, last thing I'm gonna complain about: see that rose on the bottom? Originally, I drew and inked an entirely different rose, but because I left that last for the shading, I was like...I...can't take it anymore. Haven't slept much this week and I was just done so I cheated and copied the rose on top and warped this one. I'm so sorry, I'm a terrible artist. T_T You can see the original one on the lineart when I post it. You'll notice the spirals aren't perfect or symmetrical, and that's because I didn't cheat on those at all. Didn't even use a ruler like I should have. Hur.

So, now that I'm done whining, I'm just gonna mention that the weak background texture is just some 2D Design project from last fall that I finally put to better use. It's some cross necklace I had repeated over and over. Hurray~!

TL;DR: Lots of flaws everywhere (anatomy argh), but all in all, ya know, I'm not too ashamed of this.
