Wonderful! I do all my work via mouse but when I get a tablet I imagine this being much easier.
Qestions though, what do you suggest on white hair?Light grey base and strands varying shades of white, smoke grey and ashy grey?
And black hair, dark grey base and play with solid black and black grey strands?
Or just the opposite? Haha. Thank you so mich for this tutorial, can't wait to use it.

For white hair yeah. I usually use varying shades of light grays. For black I tend to draw it as if it's dark brown. And then after I merge all my hair layers and play with the filters. Hue, saturation, etc., until I get the color I like. :3

With black hair I'll draw it as a dark brown and then play with the filters. Hue, saturation, etc.
PS: Thanks!

Oh so you do it a very dark brown and then darken it even more to make it black? Thanks for the tip!

pretty much. xD if it turns out too dark you may want to play with brightness and contrast.

Nice tut, I recently come up with a way to do this using photohops mixer brush tool instead of the blur tool. Its a different technique if you want o just paint hair cause with every stroke you grow more and more hair.

How come layers aren't mentioned here?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Elerya In reply to PureTassel [2012-12-09 23:38:23 +0000 UTC]
I don't really mention layers because everyone has a different view on layers. Each panel was done on one layer each, except the ones with shading. But I usually do each part on a different layer and merge them when I shade. I wanted the tutorial to be simple enough that you could do whatever you want in terms of layers. :3

Wow! I started doing this in a complet different way, but this is awersome! I'm gonna die before I finnish the hair of my characters ( that is long untill their legs ), but I know, this way is exactly what I searched! Thanks
Just a question: Is there any way to "disimulate" the end of the base colour? In your art looks so good, but in mine the result is a bit strange. Could you help me?

Elerya In reply to Niesavich [2012-12-09 10:10:55 +0000 UTC]
I had to look up dissimulate before answering this! Usually when I use this in my actual drawings, I'll try a couple of different things depending on the picture. I'll either blur the edges so they are less noticeable, or on the step where you use the marker tool, I'll use that marker a little more, you know? Add more strands, of varying sizes. I'm sorry if I don't make much sense right now. I'm about to head to bed. Lol. If you're still unsure, let me know and I'll try to explain a bit better after I've slept. xD
