Description
This is part of a project for a vector class I am taking. We are required to recreate a cover for a comic book (or comic card or equivalent), from lineart to colors. This is the lineart and I haven't really spent much time tuning it. After I finish coloring it I'll move this line part to the scraps section but for now I'll leave it here. Submitting this for Rachel, my sheep. (Hey, I'm finally submitting something anyway!) I know it's far from nice and there are so many people good at vector here (in fact, how do I even dare to post this crap --- it is toally your fault, Rachel! It is because of your high pressure that I posted unfinished work...)! The original comic belongs to Japanese comic artist, Satoshi Urushihara.Anyway, happy for now and I'll start coloring tonight.

How dare you say this is crap! It's absolutely amazing! I didn't know there was such a thing as vector class.. what kind of school are you doing? I should try that out.

Basically I am attending class in the computer graphic technology department, purdue university. I am not a computer graphics major and just took the class for fun. The program is hightly 3D oriently and there are only a couple of 2D-imaging related class that are interesting to me, this is one of them. I guess most of the art schools which has visual communication design program should offer such kind of class... Only my guess though
I have actually finished the coloring of the vector image and I think I'll upload it today... Thanks for your nice words! :flush: ...

Excellent work... I can't believe you drew this in Freehand... I use Freehand a lot, but never anything even approaching this. Kudos! Wonderful detail work and a fine composition overall

Me too! I collected every artbook of his that I can lay my hands on. He has great influence on my drawing style. And when the teacher mentioned this project, I immediately thought about him... ^_^

Not really... Besides I am really suffering the coloring process. The colors I created with tints does not match the color of the original comic at all...

Nai, the colors we use in vector are required to match up with the original comic book cover colors, remember? I just cannot get them right...

Since the image is scanned into computer basically the eyedropper tool does not work very good on it... it is very pixellated and several points of CMYK basically combines to give the overall look...
Tried to blur the scanned image in ps and now it is better, but still... painful.

yeah, that happened to me too...you don't need to be too perfect, because at the end, the eyes cover for it all

I finished the skirt part, now doing all the folds and the hat... A pain in the neck. I don't know why I chose this. Should have gone with sth. like batman --- almost no clothes since he only wear tights, haha.
