  • Proud (Caius) | "..." | In his former life, Caius considered himself to be a proud individual, who took pride in his accomplishments and position he had earned. He took great pleasure in watching others obtain achievements, even his cousin, Skoll, who took advantage of whatever achievements were given. Regardless, it was rare for Caius to be put down or discouraged. He had great national and species specific pride, and served his country willingly and happily when the kirins went to war, as he saw it being one of the greatest honors bestowed upon him and the other hoplites by Ignacio. Now, Caius is still just as proud, but is more bitter about it than he used to. He refuses to ask for help, his pride getting in the way of being willing to ask for assistance, and struggles to admit his faults, especially now that he shares a body that is being destroyed by his mind-mate.
  • Loyal (Caius) | "..." | Loyal to a fault, Caius had deeply rooted emotional connections to his comrades and family. Even when his cousin was imprisoned for multiple charges of murder, Caius still visited him to try and keep up relations. For Caius, betraying someone, or letting them down, was worse of a crime than murder. He honored loyalty over many other qualities, and found such loyalty in the other hoplites he fought alongside with. As of now, he has not yet found one to be loyal to. He does not know where his family are, or if they're alive, even his cousin, Skoll. The only person he can try to be loyal to is Varus, and he is finding it incredibly difficult to keep up his morals while Varus is drowning in his own troubles and is not willing to repay the favor to Caius.
  • Loud (Caius) | "..." | A loud, broad chested individual in his former life, Caius had a habit of getting loud and letting people know it. His voice could bellow over the din of battle, through the streets of Old Valore, regardless if he was happy or angry. This quality has fortunately served him well in his new life, as it is incredibly difficult for him to get through to Varus if he is not shouting in their shared mind. At the very least, he is not using physical vocal cords for the most part, so his voice cannot get hoarse when he needs to shout at Varus...
  • Strong-Willed (Caius) |  "..." | Strong in body as well as mind, Caius prided himself in his iron will. He stood his ground for as long as he could remember in his life, refusing to back down from a challenge, be it mental or physical, sometimes creating more issues than he solved with such a quality. Fortunately, at least in this life, having such a strong mind has helped him more than he would like to admit. Varus constantly addles their system with drugs, and Caius' mental fortress is the only thing keeping him at least halfway coherent and able to keep their body functioning when Varus cannot.
  • Honorable (Caius) | "..." | A classic definition of a knight, Caius considered himself to be proud, loyal, and honorable. He was guided by a strong sense of duty and ethical conduct wherever his path took him, and he strove to do the right thing regardless of the circumstances, and help all that he could in his life were his attention caught or he asked by someone for assistance, be it on the streets of New Valore near his family home, being asked by neighbors for help, or by his fellow hoplites needing a bit of tutoring in combat. Now, in his current life, he struggles to keep up his sense of duty and ethical conduct with the way Varus is taking their body. He is constantly at blows with Varus, telling him to put the drugs down, to do something with their shared life, sometimes even wrenching control from Varus only to throw the other's drugs out the nearest window, berating the other for engaging in such things. Still, he finds it difficult to keep this up with how little his control is over their body and life, being nothing more than a voice in Varus' head for most of their time together.
  • Apathetic (Varus) | "..." | A stark contrast to his former personality, Varus has become a shadowed wreck of his former self. Once a dedicated and impassioned herald, Varus has lost all interest and enthusiasm for living. Now, an apathetic, disinterested being, he hardly focuses on taking care of his shared body, instead spending what little motivation he has on the consumption of drugs. Even hearing the summons from Soleil brought him no interest, and he fought viciously with Caius over making the journey to Eithne or not. Varus thought it was too much energy, and what was the point. He couldn't fight, and Caius couldn't maintain control for long enough. He'd rather stay where he was...
  • Selfish (Varus) | "..." | Intensely selfish, especially regarding drugs, Varus shows no interest in helping others or offering them aid. This is in direct conflict with Caius' morals, as the other intensely believes in helping and offering aid when possible. Instead, Varus is intent on keeping to himself, trying to ignore the voice in his head, and indulging in his own sinful pleasures to try and find comfort from their, in his opinion, horrifying condition.
  • Incoherent (Varus) | "..." | Often addled and slowed by drugs, Varus more often than not is incoherent. His words are slurred, sleepy, and make little sense, seeming like the mutterings of a madman. It makes him seem unintelligent, and often like nothing but a drug addict, but at one time, Varus was a herald for Ignacio, highly educated and in the wartimes, a strategist where he could help offer his imput. But now, with his mind altered by drugs, he speaks little sense, and thinks even less sense. It is even difficult for Caius to properly speak and understand him, despite not having the barrier of actually using one's lips and throat to speak.

  • Weak-Willed (Varus) | "..." | Again, in comparison to Caius, Varus is terribly weak-willed and weak minded. This is why the drugs effect him as heavily as they do, while Caius can retain a shred of sanity. Varus will likely try to do anything for getting his substances, resulting in potential easy manipulation with the right enticement, despite Caius trying to offer proper advice and insight into situations to try and help Varus avoid such situations.

  • Mistrustful (Varus) | "..." | Feeling both betrayed by his god, and by the world itself for leaving him and Caius conjoined like this, Varus has gained a large degree of mistrust towards almost all who he encounters. More likely to shy away and retreat from others, unless otherwise bribed to interact with substances, or if Caius gains control, Varus has a hard time trusting others after feeling betrayed by his own body and soul.

Themesong: ℒund- Low

Sexuality: ??? uh they cant agree aka Caius: Pansexual, Varus: Asexual Homoromantic

Likes: Varus: Drugs and other narcotic substances, books and literature, silence and that includes Caius saying nothing to him. Caius: Sparring, helping others, remembering his family

Dislikes: Varus: Mirrors or reflective surfaces, loud noises or people (thanks caius), large crowds or groups of people. Caius: The feeling of lost control, being unable to help others when they need it, also not fond of mirrors.

Quirks:

    - Varus is the dominant soul with 80% control. Caius is often just a personality/voice in his head, but occasionally is able to wrench control from Varus for short periods of time.
    - Varus is heavily addicted to drugs, specifically opium. Caius screams a lot about it
    - Body language HEAVILY changes when Caius gains control. Stance becomes wider/more sturdy, like he is constantly prepared for battle, loses most of the glazed/sleepy look in their eyes, overall takes a more dominant, proud, strong position.

Fun Facts:

    - Varus is prone to self harm due to being unable to cope with the stress of the situation, ended up hacking off their horns because while he couldn't remember if this was his former appearance, he just felt something was wrong. Ended up cutting their ear and head/neck as a result of a successful attempt to hack off their antlers.
    - Varus bit their body viciously until Caius managed to take control to throw the bridle/restraint on them and Varus is often too drugged up and stressed to really figure out how to take it off. It doesn't entirely eliminate the harm, but it has helped reduce Varus' range on their body.
    - Varus quite often struggles to remember to feed and care for their body, leaving Caius to force his way through to simply take care of their body and keep it alive.

Memories:
(ALL UNLOCKED NOW. This is just a reference on what they remembered when they first appeared)
   - Both remember their names and ages.
   - Varus remembers having a relationship with Ignacio/interacting with him, but not the true nature as to why he did so.
   - Caius remembers some of his family, particularly his mother and his cousin, Skoll.
   - Both cannot fully remember what their former appearances were like, but can remember fragments, mostly due to looking at the pieces of their body that are from the other, and realizing it doesn't feel right. Varus particularly feels this one on a personal level, and is disgusted and horrified as he just entirely feels like a foreigner in his own skin. It's not even truly his own skin,

History

To tell the story of the entwined souls known as Caius and Varus, otherwise known to the new world as Caivarus, the past of both must be told individually.

Caius was a kirin from a humble birth. His mother, Septima, an Armored Hoplite, and his father, Tactius, a simple shop owner, specializing in clothing designs. While his father came from humble, smaller lines, his mother was from a family of warriors. Both she, and her elder sister, Jacqueline, were Armored Hoplites, and their parents before them were Hoplites as well. Caius' youth was spent largely in his father's shop, and from his father's scraps of fabric, Caius spent his time stitching himself play armor and cloaks, turning himself into a glorious knight, protecting innocents by day as he helped out customers in his father's shop, and fighting evil by night, in his dreams. While his mother often worked as a hoplite, she spent what time she had off to interact with her child, and happily encouraged his dream of becoming an honorable knight like her, teaching him the basics of fighting with wooden, makeshift weapons much to the young kirin's delight. Caius' youth was spent deeply rooted in the life of his family, always being surrounded by some or another. He remembers his cousin being dropped off at Tactius' shop while his parents were working, and although it took much prodding and continuous pestering, Caius often managed to get his cousin, Skoll, to play with him, often practicing fighting with one another as Skoll's parents were also pushing him to become a hoplite. Although, the two did come to blows often as well, resulting in more than one visit ending in tears and blood from actual fights with stubby horns and sharp teeth.

It didn't take very long for Caius to be noticed by the Armored Hoplites, and once he came of age, he was chosen to be trained. His heart swelled in pride and hope, as his dream was finally being recognized. He promised to visit both of his parents anytime he could before he walked out the door to go live in the barracks. Surrounded by other youngsters, all hopeful and eager, he found a sense of community and close pride that he took great pleasure in. He enjoyed the training, despite it being rigorous, and he worked hard to go through and complete his training over the many years. Only a few years after beginning his training in earnest, he met his cousin, who had also joined the training, and he was saddened to see Skoll's demeanor changing as he aged. Still, Caius did not let it effect him, and while he tried to keep up the relationship with him, he also turned to his allies in his Hoplite unit, forming deep friendship bonds which ran deep like they were his own blood.

Eventually, he graduated, and became a full Armored Hoplite, working happily and eagerly with his team when working, and assisting those in his neighborhood when he had time off, as well as visiting with his parents. This close sense of community with his team, and his family only made it easier to poison his mind. The bond began to decay, growing dangerous, poisonous, as Ignacio and his kirins grew closer, and soon enough, the war began. Caius, fueled by a sense of pride and honor, eagerly walked into the war with his team at his side. He was fighting for Aodh, for the kirins, for his home, and he had no greater sense of pride than he did then. He was a Kirin of Aodh, and he was sent on this mission by Ignacio to walk with his comrades, to scour and scorch the earth of the stains called pegasi, hippocampus, unicorns, and common horses. So he did. He fought many battles, lost many comrades. He felt both pain and loss, anger and joy, but he fought until the very end. Being pushed into the city to be cornered, Caius bound by his duty as a soldier, ended up saving the life of a young herald-turned-tactician. Dragging the other with him, not bothering to learn his name or take notice of him, the two were cornered in the city as the meteor rained down. Standing side by side, eyes turned skyward, Caius stepped forward, pushing the stranger behind him, as if to shield him from the incoming blow. Then it turned dark.

~~~
Varus's life was very different from Caius' young, hope-filled, joyful existence. Born from a long line of Masters and Heralds, scholars, artists, and inventors, high expectations were placed upon him from a very young age. It was expected of him to either take up the brush, and join the line of Masters, like his father Nona, or to work with the intent of one day living alongside Ignacio and learning his word directly from him, like his father, Faustus. Due to his youth, he could not decide on his path, so his parents simply pushed him into classes and courses involving both the study of literature, writing, and learning the word of Ignacio, as well as the study of the fine arts in hopes that one day, when he was older, he would decide his path. While Varus seemed to take to these courses in eager earnest, it was anything but that. For he was not afforded the luxury of simply being a child, and it took a toll on him. What free time he had inbetween his studies he spent watching out the windows of his home, seeing other youths scrambling down the street in playful dances. Once, he snuck out of the house, avoiding his teachers, and joined the other kirin children. He was found by the time the sun set, and was scolded so thoroughly that he thought his tiny antlers would fall off out of embarrassment. He did not try it again, no matter how tempting the thought was.
By the time he was eight, his parents had another child, a younger brother who was named Decimus. Varus, seeing the opportunity for a friend and playmate, took to his brother instantly. It was a blessing from Ignacio for Varus. Even though Varus was growing of age to begin apprenticing for becoming either a Master or Herald, he spent all of his free time lavishing his brother in attention and made up games, giving him what he himself had lacked in his own youth. He was determined to not let Decimus suffer his own past, spending lonely afternoons staring out the windows, jealous of the other foals. Though, eventually, he was forced to move away from his brother and choose his path. Faced with only two options, a Master, or a Herald, Varus spent time evaluating and calculating his options. While he had practiced enough on both subjects, he personally felt discouraged by the quality of his artwork compared to his parents and family. It wasn't something that clicked as easily for him. But literature, scripture, learning about Ignacio's own word, those were the studies that had captured his interest at least a bit. So he made the choice to work for being a Herald.
Varus began to apprentice in Ignacio's sanctum as a messenger, finding that although it was difficult to be apart from his family, especially Decimus, he began to enjoy the time spent in the sanctum. Occasionally catching glimpses of Ignacio, the sight was awe inspiring, and began to forge a passion in the young kirin to eventually become a full Herald, a scholar. Again, he worked for years, finally finding a true passion in his life, taking solace and pleasure in hearing the scriptures and messages, in learning the word of Ignacio. He was happy. Only one other event had brought him such joy, and that was Decimus' birth into the world. Eventually, his dedication paid off. He became a scholar of Ignacio, a true herald. Only for a short while. Varus was young, but only a true Herald for a few months before the poisoned bond began to grow in earnest. The Kirins began to march on the other races. Varus, unable to fight, became a tactician and scribe, recording the events and victories, and helping offer his ideas on strategy where he could. It was terrifying. He was afraid. But he trusted in Ignacio, and that was enough to make him set his mind, to dedicate his mind and soul to the conquering of Hireath. But the victory he and the kirins sought was not to be. Herded and pushed back to Valore by the other gods and creatures in the world, Varus was very nearly left behind in the retreat. Lunged upon by a unicorn, he only survived due to a hoplite stepping in-between them, shielding him from the blow and striking the enemy down. He was dragged up by this hoplite, and he ran behind him as fast as he could into Valore, his only chance of survival now being this one, armored kirin who had saved him from the enemy. And then it was only so for ten heartbeats. Staring at the sky, Varus only noticed his protector, the other kirin, stepping in front of him, as if to shield him from the incoming blow. Then it turned dark.
~~~WARNING: MENTIONS OF SELF HARM~~~

They awoke together. They did not remember one another. For how could they, when they had only met for the first time for a short while before the impact? Yet, they did not awaken side by side, laying near one another. They were together. One being. Blue scales merged with teal, black mane flowed into silver. They were one. Varus awoke first, and stood, unaware of his companion. They had appeared in a dimly lit tunnel, on the outskirts of Sterling. Caius awoke properly only minutes later, voicing his curiosity at the location. He startled Varus terribly, making him think there was someone else in the tunnel with him. But there was no one else. No one physical.

A moment of fear and confusion followed, with Caius taking control of one of their limbs, shouting out verbally for the first time. Varus, terrified by the fact his leg, or what he thought was his leg, had moved, and words had been spoken that were not his own. Varus began to lose himself in his fear, while Caius quickly and carefully processed the situation. Asking Varus to look at different objects, Caius was able to realize that where Varus looked, he could see. And only then. They were in the same body. He could feel their body's lips move, but he knew they were not his words. He quickly told this to Varus, and Varus looked over their body for the first time. Remembering little more than their own names, Varus was able to tell that something was wrong. There were scales of teal where there should be... Something else. Feeling their antlers, Varus grew disgusted, terrified, sickened. He couldn't tell what was wrong, but something just wasn't right. It couldn't be there. This was his body, but it wasn't. This was not who he was supposed to be. Taking a rock in his grip, Varus, with trembling teke, began to hack and smash at his antlers.

Caius shouted at him to stop, feeling every impact, every cut on their flesh from where the rock slipped. Varus began to scream, not caring what he hit, he just wanted the antlers gone. Chips of antler fell to the ground in noisy clatters. Caius again screamed at him, pulling the rock away for a brief moment, only succeeding in making Varus more upset. Frenzied, wild attacks at their own body followed, and shortly, a purple antler crashed to the ground. Moving to take off the other, Caius let out a booming cry in their shared mind, throwing the rock as far down the tunnel as possible. He tried to talk sense into Varus, even managing to take control of their limbs when Varus attempted to run after the rock, sending them crashing to the ground. But Varus was lost to his fear and hysteria. Unable to get up, Varus settled for crashing the remaining antler into the side of the cave. Again chips splintered, cracked, and squealed, and despite Caius pleading, begging, and screaming, the other antler followed, leaving their head a bleeding, broken, shattered mess.

Why were they like this? They weren't supposed to be like this... Neither of them knew for months. Until their memories returned. Both of them screaming, they remembered everything. They remembered who they once were, what they once were. Caius heard the summons, felt that perhaps, they could find answers with the other kirins. But Varus, traumatized and in despair from the knowledge of who he once was, and his current existence, refused to leave Breim. For now, they sit beneath the surface, hiding among the Kawaru, with Caius struggling to keep them both alive, and convince Varus to let them leave, and Varus doing everything in his power to do the opposite.

I'm cool with practically anything! I'm experienced in all ratings of RPing, and while I do love a good M rated RP, be forewarned I'm very awkward and I screech a lot when it's with a new person. After that I'm completely fine though!

My man is pretty neutral about it all, he's old and just wants to take care of his plants. If Caviar isn't a complete dick he'll be fine.
What I had in mind is that Ron actually meets people, and Caviar is the kind of dude who needs a grumpy ol' man friend.

caviar im losing my shit

ON a more serious note, they typically aren't dicks, varus is just a super apathetic depressed piece of shit who just wants to lay around and do drugs but caius wants them to actually eat food and move around so they don't waste to nothing djkfkdhd so despite cauis having some xenophilia about other races, he's desperate to keep varus from killing them, so he'll accept help from anyone
