Hi,

Here’s a sketch portrait of an orc I did last weekend. I just felt like drawing but I had no idea what to actually draw. I had characters like Marv from Sin City and Hellboy in mind so I thought I might give it a try and sketch some big guy. For some reason, at some point, it made me think of an orc, and I decided I might as well draw one.

These sketch portraits are really relaxing to do. When I’m working on a more refined picture, I spend time planning it, coming up with a few compositions from which I’ll choose the one I prefer, make sure the anatomy’s correct, ink it carefully, etc. With these portraits, I simply draw. I like this style as well: grittier, rustier, bolder. I think it fits this type of character.
