Description

Here’s The Mace. A new character who belongs to the same universe as Victrix, my previous OC. The name might be temporary, I just wanted to come up with something a little bit more precise than “a post-apocalyptic female raider that will have a part to play in the story I’ve been building”.

Like with Victrix, I actually haven’t thought too much about the story itself. Up to now, I’ve been more interested in developing the visuals. I need to have a good grasp on what the environment looks like before I move on to telling stories. I’d also like my characters to be easily recognizable even if they happened to change their costumes. This lady doesn’t wear something that can effectively protect her when she goes out raiding stuff. This might be what she wears when she’s having fun in the arena. Making sure characters who change costumes are recognized seems to be a very hard thing to achieve. I read countless stories in which I wondered who was depicted at some point. Colors can be a key factor. If you watch me, you know Victrix has blue hair. She easily stands out. This woman has a half shaved haircut so it shouldn’t be an issue unless she wears a helmet. I think beards and moustaches will be useful for male characters.

I’ve been trying to tweak my style so that I can enjoy the color process more. Basically, I aim at displaying more line weight variation and less large black flats. My ultimate goals remain the same: dynamism, semi realistic anatomy and epicism. I also believe that this modification suits better drawings that don’t belong to the genre of superheroes, especially the post-apocalyptic one since it’s a genre I’ve been interested in for a while.
