I like the picture on the left but the one on the right is horrible - I don't like the skin on the fingers

I think the one on the right is "horrible" for a reason. Those raw fingernails and flakey skin are most likely a choice...I think it's a great choice, personally, because it's so unpleasant to look at, like an unpleasant memory you just want to forget.

I like your use of the imagery of the face (in such a "contorted" pose) and the hands because they are two real indicators of who a person is. Hands can be just as expressive as a face. And the use of the words emphasize the meaning behind the photos and I really find it to evolve into something much deeper.
