I love the tilt she took slightly to port, illustrating that she didn't just side swipe it. She also steamed over it. Gorgeous piece indeed sir.

Because none of her bulkheads went all that high, I continue to ask myself this question. Even if one compartment was exposed to the ocean and nothing was done about it (not even using the pumps), would she have remained afloat? I personally doubt it since the water is going to continue to come in and spill over the bulkheads one after the next, but even if she didn't stay afloat, it certainly would've taken her much longer to sink.

Titanic could definately have remained afloat with only one compartment flooded, because she would not settle deep enough to allow water to spill over into the dry comparments on either side.
Both Titanic and Olympic were classified as two-compartment ships, meaning they could stay afloat with any two adjacent compartments flooded. The bulkhead heights were set with that goal in mind, as the worst-case scenario that could be envisioned was one where the ship lost two compartments to flooding (for example if another vessel struck her right on a bulkhead). By that metric, she was an incredibly safe ship - the scenario that sunk her was totally beyond the scope of contemporary imagination, and only seemed obvious in hindsight.
Olympic actually proved this design worked when she was struck by HMS Hawke, punctured in two compartments, and not only stayed afloat, but remained capable of maneuvering under her own power.
Research by Titanic expert Sam Halpern indicates that Titanic almostt met the criteria for a THREE-compartment ship (!), and indeed could have stayed afloat in several catastrophic scenarios where as many as FOUR compartments were flooded: www.titanicology.com/FloodingB…

Oh, yes. The fact that none of them survived is heartbreaking.

Its also the fact that they seemed like such a beautiful family and genuinely kindhearted people judging from the one group photo of them.

Great work! The blue hues are very dramatic, and the jagged edge of the berg looks like lightning.

Hate to burst your bubble, but those binoculars wouldn't have helped.
Three things you have to understand:
1) Binoculars weren't used to spot objects, but rather to inspect them once they had been spotted.
2) There was no moon on the night of the collision; this means that the lookouts couldn't see the berg directly, but rather had to look for a large black region where the stars were blocked.
And most importantly, 3) On the night of the collision, there was a thermal inversion in the air (a layer of cold air above a layer of warm air), resulting in a superior mirage, also called a "soft horizon." This reduced the distance at which the berg could have been spotted.
Lookout Frederick Fleet spotted the berg as soon as it was possible to see it; but it was already too late.
Now on the other hand, if Captain Smith had done his goddamn job and ordered helm to reduce speed...
