The Formation 1: DestroyedChapter 7 A Truth
“I don’t know how I get into these things.” I said making sure the freighter was ready. “I’m not supposed to go outside of the ship and search for people. You know my political predicament.”
Liam just laughed, for he knew I wouldn’t go back. “Yes, the Voice will be questioned. By the people in high positions, yes, but not by the people that matter.” He replied and smiled. “We try to be democratic, right?”
I just shook my head and watched as the Chance faded into the background. I muttered under my breath and concentrated and we were then before a gas planet. It seemed to give out its own heat as though in anger at the rest of the universe. This was Imaca, a planet that was harvested for a drug that was used as a healing substance. The drug was nicknamed ‘the Phoenix’s Tears’ since it cured all illnesses, but was extremely hard to get.
“They should be around here…” Liam muttered and tried to find the science exploration team. “Reach and try to find the Portra.”
Portra Neju, I am Voice Nuin also a Priest of Elixir Foin who has died with the destruction of Sola by Sepersta. I have come to seek your advice on this matter. I said to him, reaching out to him with my mind.
Well, well it’s the GREAT Priest Nuin. I’m so glad you came, I’ve been wanting to speak to you. Orbit around Imaca’s equator and you will come to us. Neju said and then gave us directions on how far away we’d have to stay from the planet itself.
The planet was lovely; I had never been this far from Sola or the rest of my Order before. The ship that Neju was in had the color of ice; I wouldn’t be surprised if it was made up of ice that was kept frozen by the powers of Neju. Something had seemed to be done to make the ice opaque so it could keep secrecy. It was a large ship, though smaller than the Chance. A hole appeared in the side of the ship for my freighter to go through.
Slowly approaching the ship I noticed small but intricate designs on the ice, runes of power; runes that seemed to be of Jian. Yes, the runes were of Jian and I knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasant meeting. The Portra would have all power over me, unfortunately. A few of the scientists came up and I saw they were more protected against radiation than against attacks.
“Welcome to our ship, Voice Nuin.” One of them said. This one seemed to have fangs for teeth, not a pure human then. “Let me show you to the Portra’s chambers. We hope you enjoy your stay. Who is this other one you bring with you?”
“This is my dear friend, Liam.” I replied and Liam took his place beside me. “He has been with me since the start.”
“I am honored to be here, sir.” Liam said and bowed. The guard nodded and led us down a corridor. It was also made of ice, though it seemed to radiate heat. Walking up a flight of stairs I saw an ice sculpture greeting us at the Portra’s floor. It was that of a snake whose mouth opened and small rubies could be seen inside.
“I’m glad you are enjoying your stay so far, Voice.” A voice said. “As that seems to be your new title.” I looked and saw Portra Neju. His red eyes seemed to shine with light from a power, maybe that of Jian. His outfit suggested he had just done a flight around the ship. “I welcome you to Ibsen’s Fame. Ibsen being the teacher of your great god Foin. Follow me now; I’ll lead you to my chambers.” He waved the scientist off and directed Liam and me to his chambers which had a Force Field door. The door showed a white dragon on a black background holding a silver ball.
“Your soul guardian?” Liam asked as he went into a chamber with ice sculptures, a Jacuzzi, a bathroom, and a large bed. The ceiling even appeared to be snowing. “You are very powerful, Portra.”
“Why thank you.” Neju replied and raised his hand. There appeared a crystal wine glass with a content that could be confused for blood. “I believe you needed my help and I am here to offer it. But I think you might still be in love with Foin, Voice.”
“I am not ‘in love’ with Foin, I just think of him like my father. And he was my father in law.” I said and waved my hand. “I need to know if there is somewhere that the Solans can colonize.”
“With a certain mind,” Neju replied. “Anyone can colonize anything. But, I’m sure, that I’m not dealing with a group of adventurers; just ones dreaming of a new home. But you can’t bring back the past, can’t bring back Sola. That was a planet far removed from galactic affairs. I would advise against that kind of mindset for your new planet.”
“What do you mean ‘removed’?” I asked as he sipped his ‘wine’. “We were kept up to date on the terms of the rest of the galaxy.”
“Yes, but your history was controlled by the false god Elixir Foin.” He said and I grimaced. “You learned something false as true, and now you don’t question it, except for those of purest heart.” He nodded at Liam. “You don’t know the gift you’ve been given, your power streams not from Elixir Foin. It streams from the source of all, the center of all the true gods.”
“I can’t be like a god.” I protested. “That power isn’t opened to mortals, I wouldn’t dare interfere. There is a realm that Foin belongs to that I wouldn’t consider myself worthy of.”
“Foin stole from that great fire, as did many others.” Neju shook his head. “The time of the true gods is long past, we can only look back and think that they might return. But, ah, that is something I am eagerly hoping for. I will make a promise with you, Voice, and to all the Solans if you’ll agree to one thing.”
“What is that?” I asked cautiously. I thought that he might trick me into making a deal that would damn me. I didn’t want to be controlled by such a powerful Portra, but he could be of use. Liam, on the other hand, seemed to agree with Neju without knowing what the deal was.
“I will give you my full support and protection if you will open your hearts to Jian.” He replied. “Look up about him. He is one of the greatest of the true gods and I implore you to look into the situation.” With a wave of his left hand two scrolls appeared. “These are two of my most prized scrolls of Jian found through my long travels. Treat them carefully or you will pay a dear price.”
Touching the scrolls made me feel like a traitor, but I took one in each hand. Looking him in the eyes I saw care, but I didn’t want it. I didn’t want to be known as a Jian lover. I had made a deal, though, and I wouldn’t go back. The Solans needed the help and I wouldn’t deny it to them. “I will, Portra Neju, and I am glad for your help.”
Author’s Note: Yes, Jian is placed in the series as a way for me to express my fears of people taking everything they hear as the truth. Some things are taught, yes, but they always need to be questioned. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t question something. I am very skeptical, but am open to other’s views.
