Description
Poser version. I started off designing this character for someone in Poser and I didn't like the bow, the cape came out terrible and then I couldn't figure out how to do half of what I wanted because I am not good with Poser yet, so I gave up after this and switched to Daz/Lux. But anyway, I did manage to salvage this shot at least. For stock use see here: [link]
Otherwise do not use without permission.

Awesome job hon! I think it turned out great! Not sure why you did not like it? Love the pose and her cool outfit too! Again, your vegetation turned out so perfectly! Awesome job sweetie!

I'm not sure either. I think it's just that it wasn't what I was looking for and the greens are icky ha ha. I wanted pretty green. I had to paint the cape because it rendered invisible, lol. It was just a lot of little things that drove me nuts with it and it was easier to just start over once I got all frustrated. Thanks though, I'm glad you like it! It probably looks different to everyone else than me.

Your most welcome hon! I think it turned out beautiful! The plants look green to me! haha I wonder why the cape rendered invisible? That's odd? You painted it perfectly though. yay! I think it turned out wonderfully!

I had to adjust the colors a lot in PS, I don't really know what happened. But I am not that good with Poser so it was probably user error ha ha.

Aww, hehe You just have not used Poser as much. You will get the hang of it once you have played more!

Yeah, and if you look at her jacket, you can see she was actually shooting that bow--the left sleeve's inside is a bit scraped.

Yeah I still remember the welts on my arm lol. A jacket is a good idea.

I 'Had' to try Davy's compound hunting bow, and that thing nearly skinned my arm for me.

I never want to cross that lady. If she can pull the bow to full draw with her arm bent like that, she could snap my spine like a twig. Heh...
Right arm needs to be extended nearly straight, and left hand should be on her cheek.

I know ha ha, it's so hard to get the damn pose right. I looked in the mirror posed about 12 times and I just gave up and went with composition lol. Which really ticked me off since I used to do archery. But she's an elf with super strength so it's totally ok in my universe.

LOL... Okay. You just have to make her biceps about 4x normal size.
Go peek at the promos for 'Hunger Games'. That youngster knows how to shoot a bow!

Nah, it's magic. She has a magical elven bow.

Okay....
Did you know that according to the experts, you can get away with 3 unexplainable things in a sci-fi or fantasy story? Any other magic/impossible science has to be explained away or you'll lose your readers.
So my books start off with some science that you can just sort of blow off--like the fuel-less, inertia-less drives that use the reactors' power (somehow) to turn electricity into drive force. Under this same wrap is my totally unexplained ability to control gravity within the ship. My two big impossibilities are: using nanomachines to make everyone superhuman, sort of. (8-10 times stronger and tougher, with the ability to regenerate limbs. It also makes aging a curable disease.) The other one is Faster than Light travel. I skirt right around the edge of that by saying: these are the FTL 'Jump Engines'. Don't engage them in a gravity well or BAD THINGS happen. I avoid the science like the plague. I am not like HG Wells or Jules Verne, who actually researched the science to write their books. My 'Jump Engines' work, and using them is simple. You line your ship up with the star of the system you're in and with the star you want to go to and push the magic 'Jump' button. Something totally mysterious happens as the 'jump vanes' charge and the 'jump field' stabilizes. And then you depart the system you're in and the next thing you know, you're where you wanted to be. Oh, and just for fun, I've added a teaser--you lose 3 hours and 21 minutes--as measured by a mechanical tick-tock watch or clock. But the electronic timers, etc., don't see the time lag. Where those 3 hours and 21 minutes go is a subject of great debate with all of the scientists. (None of whom really has the foggiest idea of where the time is going--and why it is always 3 hours and 21 minutes.)
Anyway...I'll let you go with a magic bow and super strong elf girl... that leaves you with one magical/unexplainable thing to go... So be careful that you don't use it up on Your horny horses, or something. LOL...

Ha ha that's cool. I'd like to be able to regenerate limbs like a gecko lol.
Don't worry I will make one for you with a more realistic pose. Actually she's for a book cover and so she probably doesn't have magical strength or anything, I was just teasing you. The purpose for this one was testing out my character design, the lighting and the setting. I'm not even sure what she's going to be shooting at or the angle or pose yet for the final. But I'm getting closer to the setting and the light that I wanted with the one that's rendering now. So I think I'm almost there. So I can get the pose right on the last one.

A book cover, huh? How cool is that.
Are you using Poser or Studio for this?? I'd be about lost trying to get dramatic lighting with poser.

Well I started in Poser and I almost threw my computer out the window so I switched back to Daz and it's coming out much better. Every one that I do gets me closer to the natural lighting look that I want.

That's one of the biggest advantages of Lux, as I see it--you can tweak the lighting 'on the fly'. You just have to be willing to wait for the final result.
That thing I did with the mystic elf came out fair, but it wasn't what I wanted because I didn't have another soft light source somewhere overhead, and the spotlight I'd put it was too much.
Oh, well... it's a learning thing, right?

Yeah that's what I have been working on this week. I have been pushing the limits of what I know how to do with the lights in Lux. I have one where I am trying to get the nice looking dappled sunlight and then I am also working on a city night scene. I think I have forty lights in that one ha ha, but they are all low. It's coming a long. I really like how you only have to render for a few minutes to get a good idea of what your changes will look like and then you can quit and re-do in studio or adjust right in Lux if needed.

Yeah. I've gotten into a habit of putting in multiple light sources, and then just turning them off in Lux if I don't need them, or if the shadows don't work, or whatever...
