Description Well my daughter met Captain Jack Sparrow at Disneyland Anaheim in California. She had just gotten her pirate sword when he just showed up walking by so she got his autograph and afterward he saw her sword and arranged this pose. He said to her "I like your sword Princess. Is that the sword you hit Flynn Rider with?" It was hilarious and this was the look on her face when he said that.

He also asked me if my finger was working because I took so many pictures. He was so funny!

Is it me, or should someone take the sword away from her before she kills someone...? XD

Ha ha, she did end up getting the sword taken away but at least it was plastic so it didn't really do permanent damage to anyone!

I wish I live in USA to be able to go there.
I went in this park in September 2006 but there wasn't any Jack Sparrow impersonator
Soon I will go in Disneyland Paris, but the Jack Sparrow there is less look alike.

It was the end of March right at lunch time. We were eating at one of the New Orleans places where you can sit outside and we saw him walk by so we jumped up!

I so want to meet him, I don't know why because talking characters kinda freak me out, but they're amazing and fun because they DO talk to you.

GAHH WHY DIDN'T I SEE HIM WHEN I WAS THERE LAST MARCH!?

I know, I was thinking that too, it must be such a satisfying job. Probably hard at times when people are stupid, but overall to see the children when you make the magic real for them, oh that must be so nice.

I know it's so funny and cute! Speaking of showering everyday, it was hilarious because a girl in front of us was a little shy to go up to him, so he sniffed his armpits and said "Oh you just get used to it luv" and everyone laughed and she went up to take the picture. They are so awesome there at the Disney parks, they all know just what to say when. And no he didn't actually smell bad, lol, I stood next to him too and there was no pirate odor. The only unrealistic thing!

I worked at Disneyland-Anaheim when I was about 17 years old. I was one of the 'bad guys' who robbed the train. Working as a 'character' was interesting. Fortunately for me, a day's growth of beard wasn't a bad thing, but for the folks who worked in Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, etc., a 5 o'clock shadow when you clocked in was a fast way to get fired. Stub a toe, smack your thumb, and say something bad--you were gone. No one overweight. They were murder about that.

The other thing is that if you know where the 'doors' are, you're usually never more than 10 minutes from anywhere else. A lot of the trees you walked past weren't trees. They were entrances/exits to the underground labyrinth that is under the place. That's how security gets around. That's why fights, etc, are over so fast. Security pours out in overwhelming numbers, gather up the troublemakers, and disappear back underground--usually before anyone notices.

Once underground, the troublemakers are loaded into a very special 'people mover' that takes you from Disneyland directly to the police station, which is about 3 miles down the road on Euclid. Needless to say, Disneyland 'owns' a good portion of Anaheim.

Did you make it to Knott's Berry Farm, too? That's another place on my list of 'must do' sites. Not so much for the rides, which are....meh. It's the ancient shopping area that you can get to without going into the amusement park that is the 'must see'. The Chicken Dinner restaurant, which is what Knott's was all about, is to die for. And it used to be quite reasonable. Then you can wander through the shoppes and stores.

If I'd known you were going, I would have told you to take your little angel to see the Anaheim Ballet, too. They're a small, but very good, very professional troupe. For a real thrill, you could have taken her to see something at the Dorothy Chandler Music Center in Los Angeles. That place has the most unbelievable acoustics!!!!!!!!! I've seen Evita! The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, South Pacific, Oklahoma and I have no idea how many others there.

I was wondering how the characters appear out of no where. Insider secrets huh? We didn't get to Knott's Berry Farm and I think we are going to have to plan another trip there sometime so that we can see some more of the things we missed. Next is going to be Orlando though. We haven't been there since she was 3. She doesn't remember it.

Wave as you drive by... LOL

What's really sad: I've lived in Florida for years and never been to Disney World. I've been to Epcot--once, for my birthday, many many years ago.

Are you near Orlando? And is there anything you haven't done except go to Disney World, lol? We had a better time there than Disneyland in some ways but Disneyland was so awesome because Isabella is old enough to enjoy it more and remember it. (And meet Flynn Rider of course when it matters, pretty soon it will be some teen rock group or something, ugg.) Disney World is amazing, I think because you could just spend days there and not see everything. Disneyland is kind of compact. They pull it off though.

I'm about 3 1/2 hours from Orlando. Reminds me too much of L.A. traffic wise. Dumb Florida drivers and not enough roads. Truth is, amusement parks don't do much for me, because I don't like roller coasters. I don't like anything that is going fast and pulling 'g's' when I'm not controlling it. LOL... I am just not a good passenger in a car or a plane when they're being driven hard.

Yeah, Disneyland is much smaller, physically. And it's intentionally designed to seem much bigger than it really is. If you think about it, most of the walkways curved. The various 'lands' sort of blended into each other by meandering with the various water features. And they use foliage to keep you from seeing from one place to another.

You have to remember, Disneyland opened in '57 59'(somewhere in there). And in those days, where Disneyland was at was mostly orange groves. Land was relatively cheap then, but not free, and Anaheim was already growing. So was the rest of southern California. So Walt Disney took his best shot. And won. Disneyworld was the same type of thing. Orlando was Florida cracker country before Disney started building down there. That's why there are a couple of huge amusement parks. They bought the land cheap, got tax bennies, etc.

Suffice it to say that without Disney, Orlando would just be the northern end of the swamp...
