Thanks Suzi! That water gave me some trouble as you have already heard about ha ha! But I'm glad to have it done and probably will never do water in Poser again lol but at least I know I can.

I was going to try to stick a whole village in there but by the time I got to it I was so frustrated I just wanted to be done ha ha! My first major scene with Poser. Poser hates water.

can't hate it much worse than Reality/Lux... I never have come up with a really good water prop. And if that's Poser, I am seriously impressed! You go, girl!!!

Thanks! Oh I really liked water with reality/lux. I have to try a similar scene to this in there. But this was the look I was going for here, nice and soft reflection kind of like an illustration and not too photo realistic, but it was a pain. And it crashed about 40 times before I could get it to actually finish a render.

Huh... Maybe you're having RAM troubles, too, kiddo.
And didn't you say something about having a bad GPU board?

My video card is on it's way out. I have 8 GB of Ram and haven't noticed a problem til now, but I could have a problem because I had so much trouble with Poser on this.

Well, you can test your memory easily enough. Go to www.memtest86.com/ and download Memtest. You put it on a memory stick. A small one will do, it's not a very big program. Then comes the only hard bit. You have to change your BIOS so it will boot from the memory stick. (It will be something like: USB HDD) or you can put it on a CD and then tell BIOS to boot from the CD.
Anyway, that's all you have to do. It will take off and start testing every bit of ram in your computer, and it spits up the errors. It's not fast, because it tests all of the memory, shifting DOS around so it can check everything. I just turned it on and let it run overnight. LOL... it came back and told me I had several THOUSAND failures. So I yanked two modules out and then started swapping them around, letting it run until it started failing. Just remember to put numbers on the modules so you know which one came from where. and so you can make sure they all get tested.
Ultimately, after blowing an entire day, I ended up with one pair of modules that 'only' gave me a total of 17 failures. THe other pair had hundreds of failures, and I didn't even run the entire test on them. WHy bother?
As for video boards, NVIDIA is supposedly going to be putting something new on the market shortly. Which means the last generation of GPUs will go on sale. Keep your eyes on prices at Newegg. They track the industry prices pretty closely. I would say avoid the latest generation of AMD/ATI GPU boards. What I've seen about them is that the QA wasn't great on them, and they have overheating problems. They may have a handle on that by now. I haven't done any real reading on it in the last month.
If you're going to put a serious video board in, make sure your power supply will work. My GPU board has its own power supply cable supplying 12 volts at fairly high current, I guess. 6 16gauge wires on a separate connector that plugs into the top of the board. (I think this is called 'modular power' or something.)
If you're going to stick with Lux Render, then you'll want an AMD Radeon GPU board, for sure. Hunt around... you might be able to find one like mine cheap now. Huh... never mind. I just looked at Amazon. The prices haven't started down yet. They're still over 250 bucks. That's a surprise....
I think something has driven the prices of electronics up recently. Memory is more expensive now than it was a year ago, too. I don't follow prices like I used to, so I have no idea what the trends are. Normally prices take a big drop right after the CES in Vegas. It doesn't seem to be happening this year--or not yet, anyway.
