Description (2010), 7" x 4", size 11 Delica beads (matte black, wine-red lined iris, snow leopard satin), nylon thread

A very bold, broad shoowa pattern in red and satin, accented with matte black. This is definitely a bracelet to wear when you don't want to put on any other jewelry.

The weave is quite complex, but the large openings give the broad design a sense of airiness and avoid making it feel too heavy.

It was really good fun figuring out this pattern and calculating it, so it would close in upon itself. Stitching the openings also took some figuring out. This is one of those designs that really advances your bead-savvy.

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to get back with you with the news that the pattern was now in my Etsy store, but life's been very hectic these past few weeks. I am still planning on making it, but I also don't want it to be half-assed, so it will take me a little longer than expected.

Thanks for your comment and suggestion!

Red's a bit of a stepchild for me, so I'm always pleased when I can get it into a design and it seems to work...

Thanks so much! And you are right, the gaps look like not much of a big deal until you try and realize that you need to plan them fairly carefully and thread them in pieces. I remember my first (much less ambitious piece) a number of years ago drove me nearly nuts!

Yeah, it's a really gorgeous deep ruby red, but the satin beads make it appear a little lighter. I have to do more with that color, though.

That's an interesting suggestion. I haven't worked with transparents in quite a while, but they should make for an interesting mix of textures...
