Description
(1989) 9"x12", pastels and charcoal on vellum.Who says doing your taxes is all bad? While digging around a pile of old papers I came across a small folder of ancient art and found several nice portrait drawings of Mr. Spock I did in 1989.
I guess I did all right 20 years ago and actually doubt I could still make that much out of a bunch of pastels these days.
I really went for a kind of pulp magazine appeal with the whole set: gaudy colors, spacey backgrounds etc. And for this drawing I think Spock's unusually happy disposition was based on a TV still of him hanging in a tree and laughing his head off while under the influence of some alien spores and the lovely Jill Ireland...

Thanks! I have to take another look a pastels again - though I will be waiting for warmer weather. They are so damn messy indoors...

I LOVE that episode of Star Trek, where he's hanging from the tree. And it was nice to see Spock laughing a bit.
Kirk: Spock, report back immediatly
Spock: I don't feel like it!
I love that line!
Anyways, great picture! I love it. It's way cool that you found this

This... is by far one of your bestest portraits. Both the line art and the colours are amazing. Hahhaha c'mon, I'm quite sure you can still do it!..

You should, you must. I'm one to talk really, since I looooooove anything B/W, I always think my B/W works are better than the coloured ones. But some portraits do deserve some colour (like your Vulcan friend here.. )

I know, it's more of a challenge and takes me out of my comfort zone of the past few years, but right now I am almost feeling competitive with my younger self if that makes any kind of sense.

Wow. This is good! And, you've got chutzpah--if I found any of my works of equivalent age, I probably would not be posting them. But this fully deserves to see the light of the glorious interweb! Ahem. Because 'day' just didn't seem to fit.
Crap, I know the exact episode this is from, just unsure of the title. Is it The Paradise Syndrome, or was that the episode where Kirk forgot who he was and married that Indian woman Miramanee?

How cool! I am glad I'm not the only one feeling geeky right now! The episode with the spores was called "This Side of Paradise", I believe, and the one with Kirk/ Kirok was "The Paradise Syndrome."
