Description
Okay, so this is as canon (in my opinion) as I can get to the books for a size comparison. My main references were;Glaedr - (Eldest) His eye was compared to the size of a roundshield (*Wouldn't of grown much bigger since Eldest as he was older and his growth would've slowed rapidly)
Thorn - (Inheritance) was quoted as slightly bigger than Saphira I believe in Dras Leona when they take down the cathedral
Saphira - Know all the references of her size throughout the books by heart because i'm that cool etc
Firnen - (Obvs Inheritance) Slightly smaller than Saphira (Doesn't make much sense considering his age and growth acceleration compared to Saphira's in Eragon from what I remember...)
Shruikan - (Inheritance) He's a tricky one because the way he's described (wings blot out most of the lights in the 'capital' (biggest in Alagaesia) city) and his spines are as wide as the trunks of ancient oak trees means that his size could vary from my sized Shruikan to something larger
Obviously, these sizes, (particularly Shruikans) only apply to my idea of what the dragons look like anatomically/physical proportions etc, so depending on CP's actual canon dragons, I could be way way out, but either way, here's just another idea of looking at their sizes

Amazing. I still can't imagine seeing something that big. My teeny brain can't comprehend it. Haha. I'm just a tiny human.

Belgabad was even bigger than Shruikan, or at least Shruikan's size in the 4th book.

Do you think Balerion would be able to fit here? He was big enough to swallow a mammoth whole (and the series showed us a 22 feet tall mammoth, so...).

That is sorta true, but I think Glaedr should be bigger because he is the oldest. In the books, it says that Shruikan is still a youngling when Galbatorix lost his dragon. Brom said that the oldest dragons could've been mistaken for small hills.

Shruikan is younger than Glaedr, but remember that Galbatorix has access to a spell that can accelerate the growth of a dragon. That's why Thorn is bigger than Saphira despite being younger than her.

Maybe some dragons just have a faster growth rate than others?

Shruikan is probably the most tragic character in the books second only to Brom who also got the short end of the stick.

Shruikan, favourite dragon in all the books, shame he was so maltreated, but he could've wrecked all of the opposition if he'd been bothered. Awesome drawings, I'm just gobsmacked by how good these are!

i'm pretty sure human would be considerably bigger than this estimate since it'd be a real chore mounting the dragon otherwise. at full height on all fours i'd guess saphira's shoulder was maybe 10-15 feet in eldest... wingspan looks right though! any larger and orik wouldn't have been able to climb her even though she lay on her stomach. The Glaedr- Shruikan seems right. makes you wonder how many hours in advance a human rider would have to start the climb to make a quick, routine patrol when his dragon was a century old

In all seriousness though, this is epic.
I'm one of those people that found this on Shurtugal. Thought I might just make the joke below and say that this is an epic piece of art.
Oh, and faved.

So Shruikan is approximately the size of the Normandy SR-2...
Good news: there's now an incredibly efficient way to kill Reaper ground forces without involving Commander Shepard.

Who needs directed energy weapons when you can just bury something in an avalanche of fire?

Wow, this is insanely good! I saw this on Shurtugal, and apparently CP has given this two thumbs up? I knew Shruikan was big, but I didn't dare comprehend a monster that size! Pure evil~
Awesome stuff!

I like this a lot. I was having some trouble thinking about Shruikan's size. He was huge when he came out at night, but was much smaller in my imagination when he was fighting Arya, Saphira, and Thorn. The throne room must've been HUGE. lol
Speaking of, can you imagine being the rider to a dragon that size or bigger? You could build a house on him for goodness sake! hahaha

Thankyou Yeah, it's quite something to try and get your head around.. I think Eragon had trouble with it too haha! And not just a house, you could build a sea-front of hotels on his back! haha

Umm, well I don't know how accurate I will be with this, so this is just a rough idea of what I think they'd be at the time i've drawn them, but;
Firnen - 45ft
Saphira - 60ft
Thorn - 75ft
Glaedr - 160ft
Shruikan - 1600ft

Alicelisabeth [2013-02-13 20:40:30 +0000 UTC]
Lol imagine someone seeing them one by one:
"Wow, Saphira is so big, she could smash me just like that!
Omg, Glaedr is huge! He's so much bigger than Saphira.
Oh. My. God. Shruikan is the biggest animal I saw in my life!!!!"
I know, I know, I shouldn't have written animal. Dragons are too nobel creatures to be compared to animals.
Beautiful, they're great!
