skin looks fine :I
you just have to figure out how to put certain colors together,for example
Light Skin+Dark Hair color
Normal skin+any other shade of hair
Darker Skin+bright hair
So in your your case,if you switched around some colors,I think you'd have a better outcome.
As for backgrounds....I have no idea either,just look up some reference stuff o.o
