Description
Primitive Scald
Represented by the genomic letters Scp
Primitive Scalding appears to be an older form of the Wild Scalding gene that appears exclusively amongst the Solar herds of Elysium. This gene is better known by its common name of 'Dawn and Dusk' which refers to the colors it produces on the unicorn. Dawn refers to a unicorn who has warm color hues (reds, oranges and yellows). Dusk refers to one that exhibits cool hues (blues and purples). It is important to note that regardless of which phenotype is expressed, genetically Dusk and Dawn are identical.
Dawn and Dusk has several other unique abilities and effects on horses that inherit it with other genes. The most important one is called 'Kidnapping'. Primitive Scald has a habit of 'Kidnapping' other genes or factors on the unicorn that inherits it and changing the color to match.
Firstly, you will notice in our examples that both horses have hoof and horn colors that match their shade of Primitive Scald, not their base coats. This is an example of 'Kidnapping'. It will also effect the color of manes and tails. Note that our stallions mane is only half the same shade as his scalding. It ends where the scalding does. Our mare on the other hand doesn't have any scalding that touches her mane so it remains the normal color. Her tail however is a lighter shade of her dusk color since her double dilute base does effect the dusk shade.
The other gene that Primitive Scald will kidnap is Primitive Dun. When paired with Primitive Dun, the dawn/dusk color will change the color of the stripes to match once more.
