cool, I was thinking to make my own series of The Colone's bequest and a sequel too it where it's like a few years pass and Laura is given the mansion after the colonel dies and Laura finds out the mansion is haunted by all of the ghosts of the victems that were killed.Β

Hey
Why did the project get abandoned?
Why not continue with the project?
Is it possible to pick it back up?
What would it take?
What would you need?

I could do the art part on such a project, if the art style would be 3d art. and it would be about 5% of the job,, I think you would need research skills, patience. The biggest part is writing, scripting events in a game engine. It was only a try we did, for fun.

This is amazing!! I hope the project is still underway. I couldn't believe my eyes when I stumbled upon this - it looks SO PERFECT; back in the days when my eyes didn't realize how different the pixel art was to real life, this would have been how I saw that room! Incredible!

RIP Fifi!

thanks for this delightful comment! I had a real blast to read !!
we finished most the scenes from the game, making them 3d, and it just stayed
as it is,, the thing is there are about a full novel of text to input in
it.. as well as scripted events to carefully orchestrate.. its a major pain
to make these kind of sierra adventure.

Very happy you shared the experience!

I can't even fathom all the work that must go into it! Nonetheless, it was such a great game to me, I would love to see it in a format my friends wouldn't be appalled to play (as it stands, most see the original graphics and shirk the idea)...

I honestly remember the first time I was playing when in the dining room the killer ran by with the knife... My sister and I just about screamed. It took us a long time to figure out he wasn't going to come in and get us, and we just sat there, watching the windows in fascination.

I wish Dagger had captured the same level of terror I had in Bequest. Graphics were nicer, but the mood wasn't as well-done. Probably because for so much of the game you could leave. Being trapped on that island was so terrifying.

I still hope the project will continue to completion at some point! Your work on it is amazing!!

The second game required build-up to get in the museum. If you were just trapped there instantly, it would be a mirror image of the first game and make no sense. After the first murder, you can't leave, which isn't "so much" of the game. It required a different style of world by design.

The first game had some issues, one being that the other characters never believed Laura that the others were dying, despite how obvious it got during the course of the game. In the second game, at least they don't question that the characters are dying, plus having nice and detailed death scenes.

In the first game, the killer never chases or comes after you; she actually gets killed offscreen. In the second, you are in direct danger
as you fend off the pursuit of the killer; more active sense of danger there actually. More interesting ways for you to die in the second game too. How one sees the "terror" is quite subjective.

Regardless, remakes of both would be enjoyable, considering how the more major sierra series stole the spotlight.

omg that is some serious pure awesomeness!,

It was really compelling to play these, i agree
I think the primitive pixel art had the ability to combine with
the player's imagination alot. Like i would draw in my school books, stuff
coming out of nintendo games. as if it was an extended universe.

To be honest i would like to tell you theres a chance, but
its 200% abandonned project from 2006..!

Wow - this looks great... have you done any more screen shots? Is this going to be part of a remake... I played this loads when I was younger, loved the game though was very frustrating, every time you walked to the next screen or another room you would have to load about three disks and wait for it all to load on... I swear I changed those disks thousands of times playing this game

hahahah! that is prettyy cool ! In fact our remake plans stalled,, a few years ago, lots of people were doing remake of such games, after a good point and click game engine was established online..

thanks for comment!!

copying a camera angle from a pixel art is quite a good exercise! you have to tweak the elements from the scene a bit!

this is not the right image, but it shows the style !
