Description
***PLEASE FULL VIEW OR DOWNLOAD***Um, I hated my other tutorial on this, so hopefully I made a prettier/better one. There's no text because then the file size would be even BIGGER. o_o; I hope you can follow along. AND I USED GUIDELINES, SO THERE (I hope I used them correctly...)!

Um, not particularly. I have a video where I draw a head and body here, and a tutorial on fashion heads/bodies (not really anatomically correct because it's fashion illustration, not figure drawing, though) here. I hope those help some, but, yeah, sorry. I don't have any that address the head in proportion to the body. I just eyeball it.

how would you do that without guidelines?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ember-snow In reply to mahboi18 [2011-09-26 01:48:22 +0000 UTC]
Well, you'd have to generally know where facial features go if you don't use guidelines to help you. I actually learned how to draw without them, so I'm not sure if this is the correct way to use them, if there is a correct way. But this is how I do it, generally, when I do use them. ^^ This tutorial is a bit old though, so maybe someday, I'll make a new one or something.

well, I meant the other body parts. I tend to do that without guideline3s and until now I thought it was necessary until I saw your artwork.

Ohhh, sorry about that. Yeah, I usually draw a really rough guideline of the body and then add in the details and tweak things later on... I think it really depends on the artist. I used to not use them at all, but now I can't draw bodies without them (or really with them either, ha ha--not very well anyway).

Take a picture of it on paper, then outline it on the computer and delete the sketch or whatever to where its just lineart. God this sounds confusing but I dont know how else to put it. OTL

Yes, I did take pictures. Um, you should probably scan in comic pages instead of taking photos. The quality is better. I just take pictures for tutorials because it's faster than scanning in each step.

I don't have a scanner. I have the digital camera and webcam inserted automatically to the laptop. that is all.

ember-snow In reply to romantica12 [2011-09-23 06:19:23 +0000 UTC]
Ah, I see. That's a bit of a problem. I think it's kind of hard to get good-quality photos of comic pages, especially if they're on larger paper (like computer paper or bigger). That, and it would be difficult to take a good photo so that you could actually read the text (if it's written on the page) and see any details in the drawings. What you could do is take the picture on a macro setting if your camera's got one, and edit any illegible text out and type it instead on the computer.

romantica12 In reply to ember-snow [2011-09-23 21:37:11 +0000 UTC]
Oh, okay. Thanks for the advice.
I actually fold the drawing paper in half actually.
And then draw the manga.
What exactly is a Macro setting I mean what does it do exactly?

ember-snow In reply to romantica12 [2011-09-26 01:52:16 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome!
Ah, that would make it a bit easier, I believe.
A macro setting basically adjusts the camera's lens so that you can take clear photos of objects up close. If you've ever tried to take a photo of something really up close and had it turn out blurry, that's because it wasn't on a macro setting. The macro setting helps make the photo turn out clear.
