Description Something quick I did today for fun. The idea behind this is that joy is found when you put Jesus first, others second, and yourself last.

I'm glad that you believe in the Lord. Maybe you should read your Bible again though. This isn't my own personal idea, this is what God teaches in the Bible. The Bible says that Jesus comes first before everything, even our family. Don't get me wrong, loving your family is very important!

Jierat In reply to Emberblue [2013-03-23 21:28:13 +0000 UTC]

The bible also says that it's fine to rape someone, as long as you pay her father and marry her afterwords. Even when I was religious my family and friends came first.

Emberblue In reply to Jierat [2013-03-23 22:32:30 +0000 UTC]

Are you serious? Did you actually read that? I read the scriptures that are on that site and they don't say anything about rape. The person who wrote comments on there says that they are about rape, but if you actually just read the verses they aren't even talking about rape (most of them). I see several examples where women were forced to marry men, but that is not rape...not in that culture and time period. In today's culture if a woman was forced to marry a man we would seriously consider that wrong, but you have to consider the culture and time period that these things were written. It was forced marriage, not rape. Several of the examples on that site are NOT things that God commanded or approved of, they are things that people did.

Lets look at Deuteronomy 22:28-29. That specifically mentions rape. It does not condone rape, it says what to do when rape happens. And this may be a surprise to you, but marrying the rapist was an act of mercy. In that culture if a woman was raped she was defiled and worthless. No one would want to marry her, she would not be able to raise a family and children which was crucial in that culture, she would have no livelihood or way to survive. Her life would be ruined. But by forcing the man to marry her she was taken care of and provided for. I'm sure this sounds totally foreign and offensive to you, but please consider then culture and time period, it was very different than ours.

If you want to hear more, I am more than willing to go over the scriptures with you.

You've just proven my point. Back then were different times, so why are people still worshiping this? Most of the rules and instructions don't matter anymore because they're outdated; and they will continue to get outdated until they're considered primitive. And what about all the killing that god commanded people to do? He ordered them to kill all the children, women and men except for the ones that they could marry. If you're explanation for that is "It was a different time." then does that mean god changes his rules too? Does that mean we have to pick and choose what to rules to follow because god was absurd at that time? You'd think he would give advice and instruction that would forever be useful.

Emberblue In reply to Jierat [2013-03-23 23:43:55 +0000 UTC]

The Old Testament is full of good things, great examples, mercy, good morals...it is too bad that you want to only remember the negative things.

Most of the Old Testament (Old Covenant) laws are not followed anymore because we have a New Covenant that Jesus gave us. Some of the old laws were reinstated in the New Covenant, but not all of them. We follow the New Covenant now, but that does not make the Old one useless. The Old Covenant served it's purpose.

So what are your thoughts on the New Testament then? My deviation was about loving Jesus first, and putting the needs of others before your own needs.

PIDKID In reply to Emberblue [2013-03-23 19:21:07 +0000 UTC]

I don't read the bible I feel that it is full of lies spat out by the mouths of men who want only to rule and dominate what they would call the lesser population. Further more I am not what you would call a typical Protestant for I don't believe in the lord as many others picture him as for me he is a great powerful being of energy for science has taught us energy can neither be created or destroyed and Quantum physics dictate that if there is enough amount of particles in one place at a given time such as energy it has the chance of becoming a sentient being and a being of energy could also have the ability to manipulate other energy particles around it. This is my argument on how god has always existed and my argument on how he created the big bang.

Actually, that is not completely true. The Bible clearly states that Christians will be persecuted. For example: 2 Timothy 3:12 Yes, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. Who will persecute Christians? The others.

Emberblue In reply to a-p-b [2013-03-23 16:56:31 +0000 UTC]

You are absolutely right. BUT Christians have joy in their persecution.

James wrote this to Christians that were being persecuted for their faith, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials" ~ James 1:2

The composition comes across a bit commercialish, which I suppose isn't bad, but there's not a whole lot in this, visually speaking. The content bothers me a bit, but the purpose of visual art is to sometimes aggravate others. In this case it comes across like a passive aggressive version of the occasional Christian rhetoric that pushes concepts like "humans are worthless sinners without god", "there is only jesus", "nothing is more important than jesus", which, intentional or not, feels like a poke at non-believers. It's a near surefire method of pushing nonbelievers away, because of the backlash of the psychological fact that humans do no like to be told what to do.

Sorry for the novel.. I wanted to open my opinion up a bit instead of just giving a one word crit.

Emberblue In reply to SormiPoro [2013-03-23 17:02:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I really appreciate your criticism. don't worry, you didn't write too much. I didn't think it was long at all. I asked for critiques, and that is what I want. I'm trying to experiment more in typography, and I wanted to do an acrostic in a way that was a little more creative than the norm. So I'm really looking for critical feedback. Thanks so much!

I guess I should have put a disclaimer that this message is intended for Christians, not for non-Christians because they won't really understand it. Most of my followers are Christians I think, so I didn't think it would be a big deal. Personally I really don't care if people are offended at being told what to do, it is going to happen their entire life and they need to get used to it! lol! And in addition to that, the message that Jesus taught was that people would be offended because of the things that He said, because people don't want to hear it even if it is true.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SormiPoro In reply to Emberblue [2013-03-23 20:59:59 +0000 UTC]

Nor should you care if people are offended. People get offended way too easily and I find that the pursuit of being non offensive in everything is complete shit, and it's often very apparent in popular media by hollywood and triple A game studios that they try to be as inoffensive as possible, which waters down content.

But you should be aware of the things that sub-consciously annoy people, and being told what to think (and do) is one of the things that will either get under people's skin or get them to ignore you. It's a primal reaction, a defense against a (non invasive) attack, which means either throwing up shields (ignoring or getting defensive, you'll see a lot of this in the comments on your piece) or by counter attacking (belittling the message behind your piece, by being provocative. This is also very present in the comments)

Emberblue In reply to SormiPoro [2013-03-23 22:03:40 +0000 UTC]

lol! You are sooooooo right!!!

So what is your suggestion then? We both agree that being non-offensive waters down content. I am very aware that the things I believe (and say) offend people.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SormiPoro In reply to Emberblue [2013-03-23 22:27:58 +0000 UTC]

Heh.. I guess I'm out of suggestions. Content like this will never be for me. All I can say is that try to get a more technical crit with more specifics from someone who knows the field, keep practicing and decide on the content based on your own thoughts, instead of what may or may not piss people off. And pissing people off has its advantages, as it got you enough exposure to reach the front page.. It got me to click and comment, as the thumbnail was enough to tell me the theme.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Emberblue In reply to SormiPoro [2013-03-23 23:45:43 +0000 UTC]

I think people were offended just because it says "Jesus". If that was replaced with a different word it wouldn't have been a big deal.

lol! Well, pissing people off was not my goal. I'm glad that you stopped by and gave some good discussion.

I've never met Jesus, and you? Christians are sinful like others, but they can wriggle out from judgment, saying aaaaa, Jesus died for our sins, aaaaaa, our sins are forgiven! Because of this, they feel no remorse, and they can continue their sinful life cauz god will fogive them for their funture sins too, so they have no reason to fear anything, because Jesus gave his life for his people, and no matter what these people do, their sins will be gone! Also, why they kept sacrifice scapegoats? To transfer their sins into a guiltless animal? Isn't that selfish to toss animal into damnation instead of damning the sinful people?

This is just stupid. Im sorry, the whole thing is not fair. Sinful bad people will be damned anyway, those priests who raped childrens, and those politicians who keeps looting the poor countries every given day, etc. If there is a good god, he/she won't let away any criminals without judgment.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CosmosKitty In reply to FrozenRealm [2013-03-26 12:03:48 +0000 UTC]

I feel remorse for the wrong things I have done, I'm only human but I can seek forgiveness in God. Don't think you can intentionally sin and say "oh it's ok god will forgive me" It specifically says in the bible that you cannot, and I too must forgive and forget. Some people have done terrible unforgivable things to me but I have forgiven them anyway because I know it's what Jesus would do. I'm not sure what you mean by sacrificing goats because I sure haven't sacrificed any animals, I have no idea where you got that from.

Also, just because a select few who call themselves Christians do those terrible things, doesn't mean all Christians are like that, why with that attitude you would have to assume all Germans want to kill jews, and all Muslims are terrorists, now that isn't fair at all is it?

I don't see that much bashing. The problem is that we have no idea of the amount of decent deviants who took a look at this piece, but, despite not sharing the ideology of Christianity or not believing in that God, chose to say nothing and move on. According to the number of views there are probably hundreds of them, though. As opposed to the few differing opinions stated in the comments.

So, I would say that's pretty light still, as there's been a lot worse bashing on religions and other controversial subjects around here. Just my two cents. : )
