Description
I have to say you all of this...These birds I love the most of all birds !
Java sparrow is the bird from the estrilds family (Estrildidae - twinspots, firefinches, waxbills and mannikins), so this is the cousin of zebra finch, bengalese, gouldian finch etc. These birds originate from the islands Java and Bali, but now they can be seen in many regions of the world, i.e. Fiji Island, Philipines, Mauritius, Australia, New Zealand, United States (Canlifornia and Hawaii). They are very numerous and in many countries they are "pests", because they eat a lot of rice.
Nonetheless java sparrows are gorgeous and beautiful birds. This is very popular cage bird. It was known as a cage bird in China over 4 centuries ago where the white mutation was created. These little birds with extremely smooth plumage, large red beak are intelligent and easy to tame, also they breed in captivity very well. There are known many color varietes, i.e. white, silver, fawn but I think the "wild" type, grey, is the most beautiful.
It has many english names, the species is called "java sparrow" or "java finch" or just "java", also "paddy bird" "rice bird" so it is dificult to say what name is the most correct. In Poland we call this bird "grey ricebird".
4 years ago I saw them in pet shop for the first time and I fell in love with them ! So I keep them at home. I have a pair of normal grey javas. Last week the female laid 6 eggs and I hope they are fertilized and that the babies will hatch soon
I would like to have an aviary one day and more javas. Though they are popular cage birds, javas are hard to purchase in Poland, because they are on the international list of endangered species (I have no idea why..) - CITES - and every individual must be registered. The breeders are "lazy" and they just stop breeding javas. My birds are registered and the babies will be too.
This picture was really quick, so it is not perfect. It took me about an hour to draw this.

Of course, I let you know, if I draw anything, but now I'm not planning to do any pics of them right now. BTW, have you seen my small java finches family? -> [link] It's so old pic but so cute

They're included in CITES because they are endangered in their native habitat, unfortunately. I love them, but have never kept any myself (hope to change that sometime not too far from now).

Java sparrows! I use to have a pair of fawn javas years ago, they have a very stubborn personality, they will
stand their ground against anything.
I really like this picture, really nice colouring and it just seems like the perfect profile picture for a pair of finches.

Have you to register your birds? thats weird, those birds are not endangered, mexican goberment must be that exigent with ambiental laws, hundreds of endangered species are sold and nobody does anything
