Description
A Red-tailed hawk - Buteo jamaicensis - very popular bird of prey in the North America.Say.. why do you call it a "hawk" when it is actually a buzzard ? It is however related to european buzzards and this is the same genus: "Buteo". So, the name should be: red-tailed buzzard.
It's common bird on weastern regions of North America and it is very beautiful bird.
This portrait was made using a watercolours and postercolours, and all dark lines were made using a Pentel BK77 ballpoint - the best way to draw dark lines! I love this pen !!
Anyone wants to buy it ?....
I need money, so I decided to do some traditional arts and to sell them....

Absolytely fantastic work! The animal depicted in itself is beautiful indeed and your rendering of it is very realistic and accurate, certainly doing full justice to the subject. I love the feather patterns, they are so intricately done that what could I ever do but admire?

just beautiful.
Somehow, in the US, 'buzzard' was turned to mean vultures. So we call the Reddy a hawk to redeem the beauty and grace of them.

Oh, I know now why in US they call it "hawk". But I think there is a big mess with the naming of birds and the scientific name is the best way to know what species You describe. So I induce people to use scientific (latin) names to be sure

i didn't know about Romans ! Yes, The latin name, It's most useful... I am glad that scientific word (including ornitologists) are simultaneous with the term of genus: Buteo ! (buzzard)

I like you picking up on that strange naming. Though it doesn't apply over here in England, they keep telling us its a Red-tailed buzzard and then saying but over in the US they call it a Red-tailed hawk and they always seem to have a funny smile when they do.
This is an amzingly wonderful picture, and if it is still available in a few weeks time when I get some more money in I'll be requesting purchase definitely.

This is gorgeous...
I chase these away from our chickens every so often... I recognize the face!
What you said about it being a buzzard has made me curious... So hawks are a different genus from this?
When someone here says "buzzard" we usually think of a vulture, with a bald head. But now that I look at this picture, the beak does look like that of a buzzard.

Yes, hawks are actually a genus Accipiter - they have rather bright yellow eyes and bars on their breast and belly, like Accipiter gentilis -> [link] or Accipiter minor -> [link]
Buzzards are genus Buteo and I don't know why they are commonly mistaken with real hawks. Red-tailed hawk is actually a buzzard, its scientific name is Buteo jamaicensis. You can find many informations about a buzzard genus on Wikipedia, here: [link]
Of course "hawks" or "buzzards" are just common names for these birds, and their scientific name just explains everything for bird lovers
Both genuses are beautiful, indeed
