Description
Another Collagraph. Again, you mod podge the matt board then add whatever materials that you want to print and seal them on the board. Here, I used actual leaves and grass. I could only get a few prints before it fell apart.Related content

A little late on the reply lol. Um it was just the ink roller that I allowed to do that.

Aren't they? I just never know what I'm going to get when I start a plate. I like that about printmaking because I'm so ocd in every other area of art. xD

This was definately a very creative idea, with the leaves and such. Do you have a printing press or how do you do it?

OH thank you very much for the
Here's an explanation. "(also spelt collagraphy) is a printmaking process in which materials are applied to a rigid substrate (such as cardboard or wood). The plate can be Intaglio inked, inked with a roller or paintbrush or a combination of all three. The Ink or pigment is applied to the resulting collage, and the board is printed onto paper or another material. Substances such as carborundum, acrylic texture mediums, sandpapers, string, cut card, leaves and grasses can all be used in creating the collograph plate. Leaves are used for the pigment, to do so they are rubbed onto the surface. Different tonal effects and vibrant colours can be achieved because of the depth of relief and consequent shadow effects and the differential inking that results from the highly textured surface. The resultant print is termed a collograph." They leave out the part though were you have to first seal the board several times..seal/dry/seal/dry....then reseal after the items are pasted on the board.

Ya, every aspect of printmaking is weird. There are many different ways to make prints. You should take some classes if you get the chance.

emberleo In reply to jessijoke [2008-06-21 18:18:04 +0000 UTC]
Oboi, well...we had to have a certain amount of studio electives to graduate. that's why I ended up taking 5 printmaking classes.

jessijoke In reply to emberleo [2008-06-22 05:02:11 +0000 UTC]
We have 5 studio electives to graduate. Well, technically I have six :innocence: I got the head of digital media to agree that taking intro to digital media would be stupid for me since I know the programs they teach. He looked at my stuff and decided all I would miss from not taking it is the pleasure of a semester with the guy who teaches it.
But so far, I've got Illustration Storybook as an elective. But I'm considering taking Web Design, as it's yet another thing that would ad to my portfolio in digital art. I could do graphics and websites together.
Heh, But it seems like a lot of money to pay for something I can learn from a book from the library. That's all. It's still indecision. Print making makes me nervous too though, I know they use some nasty chemicals. And er... I'm accident prone?

emberleo In reply to jessijoke [2008-06-22 05:37:20 +0000 UTC]
It depends on what you do in printmaking. It's hard to say though, since I don't know the course of study there. Mostly it's just paint thinner you deal with unless you are etching. Dun be scared.
And I agree about web design...all you need is dreamweaver and a guide to it.
Unfortunately we didn't have illustration classes where I went...so now I'ma try to teach myself. ha.

jessijoke In reply to emberleo [2008-06-22 05:48:32 +0000 UTC]
I've looked into it a bit, but I the first week of classes is making you look at photos of what can happen if you misuse chemicals... and I find that awful XD It's why I haven't taken photography or jewelry. It's take there.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
emberleo In reply to jessijoke [2008-06-22 16:22:23 +0000 UTC]
Ya, well they do exaggerate some. the thing about you taking those classes is that the chemicals are already mixed for you most likely. So once mixed they are diluted and not so bad. Especially the darkroom chemicals. They don't suggest you stick your hands in it while processing a picture but any real darkroom artist does to smooth it in the grain. I guess after a long period of time it can start to affect you but some of the chemicals are only seriously harmful in concentrate form. Dun be scared.

Still want to say don't be scared?

Bwhahaha.....*breaths*....hahahaha.
Noobs.
I have no idea about the jewelry...I went to a regular university for my BFA so we didn't have that many indepth choices as jewelry or illustration, but ya...in all my years, no fires except in the kiln lol.

XD It was pretty bad. Called out in the middle of class. LOL I guess pros and cons eh?
Pros... You get out of your report in 3D design that wasn't entirely ready, until next week.
Cons... Your school is on fire?
xD Mine is very in depth, we have Digital Illustration, and Traditional Illustration.

Omg I love fantasy. At one point it was a dream of mine to make paintings of landscapes with like, dragons, and such in them. Kinda like a hidden picture.
I'd still like to, just atm I'm terrible at landscapes and I need to work on that first.

emberleo In reply to jessijoke [2008-06-24 20:19:29 +0000 UTC]
well, you could start by practicing from other images of landscapes. To me it's just like the human form, you need a model until you really know the form.

jessijoke In reply to emberleo [2008-06-24 22:49:33 +0000 UTC]
Heh I guess I see people and objects differently somehow. I have trouble giving them dimension even with perspective and cool/warm color theory ><; I think I need flat out hard core practice. Lots of it.
And *nods* I think practicing from other images of landscapes will help

emberleo In reply to jessijoke [2008-06-24 23:47:53 +0000 UTC]
Well, I guess a lot of objects have more room for error, if they are organic. I need lots of practice too. I may do well but it takes me forever. And good luck with that! I may join you and do a landscape after I finish this portrait.
