Description
lf fear was a crystalized substances that froze all who are trapped by their darkest fears...no one would walk free. Fear is what everyone feels, even the bravest of us all, no matter how fearless they seem on the outside.Fear is an illusion that holds us hostage, but we’re also the ones to break free, we just have to chose whether to run...
...or to fight.

Ridgedog had been pacing around in the large living room of his mansion all day, constantly checking his pocket watch and peering out the windows at the sky. Ember, who was training to use her powers in Ridge’s abode, began to grow curious as to why the demi god was so agitated. He was suppose to be teaching her but his mind was adrift, a worried expression permanently planted on his brow.
‘Ridge? What’s the matter? You’ve been acting weird all day’ Ember finally asked.
The demi god faced her. He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
‘Sorry, I have a lot on my mind right now’ he uttered.
‘Its Halloween Ridge, lighten up for the holiday. There’s nothing to stress over’ Ember told him lightheartedly.
Ridge gave another hefty sigh, crossing his arms behind his back as he stood tall.
‘Lessons are over for today. Go hang out with Lalna, he should be with the heroes celebrating Halloween at the factory this evening, being Friday they are more then likely celebrate with one of their Friday night drinking contests’ Ridge told her.
Ember was taken aback, but she knew not to argue with the demi god when he was frustrated like this.
‘Erm, okay...I’ll see you later then. Have a good Halloween’ Ember spoke somewhat confused in her teacher’s state of mind, giving a quick ending bow of respect and she left through the large oak doors of his mansion.
‘You probably won’t see me later if Metus gets you heroes...’ Ridge muttered to himself, and he resumed pacing around his living room.

Ember met up with the heroes and Lalna just as they finished placing the Halloween decorations around and placing their hand carved pumpkins that they cut out earlier that day. The altered girl told them that she had finished with her training for the day and that she came to celebrate Halloween early with them. They were of course over joyed that she could join in on their mini celebration, she could judge the beer-drinking contest. Because Ember didn’t really drink, she could keep the scores of how many beers they downed.
‘Right were at five, four, and five’ Ember said as she counted the chalk tally’s on a small blackboard, propped up on an art easel.
‘Oh yeah! Neck and Hic! neck!’ Lalna boasted, charging his tankard high and quickly downing what was left of his drink, which was just a bit of foam and a dribble of mead.
‘But you can’t Hic! hold up much longer science guy! Hic!’ Honeydew slurred, standing up wobblingly on the crossbeams of his stool so he could stare eye to eye with the scientist.
‘And why not?’ Lalna asked with a slight sway, reminding Ember of the way that Jack Sparrow moves around in the pirate movies.
‘You can’t- Hic! drink a dwarf under the t-Hic!-table! Xeph can’t and never Hic! will!’ Honeydew slurred.
‘O-one day I will Honey-Hic!-dew...’ Xephos hiccupped, and he downed the rest of his tankard and slammed the empty cup down, wiping away the foam that had gathered around his mouth with the back of his sleeve.
Ember quickly drew a line on the chalkboard.
‘It’s a three way tie!’ she announced.
Feeling encouraged upon hearing this, the three drunken men perked up and instantly grabbed another full tankard of foaming beer from the middle of the table.
‘This competition is mine boys!’ Honeydew cheered as he waved his beer around, some of the foaming head spilt down over the lip of the tankard as he swung it around.
‘No way beardy-chops! This comp is mine for the talking- I mean taking!’ Lalna slurred confidently.
As Ember smiled and ate one of her lolly holiday treats, she rolled her eyes at the drunken debate. They were so weird when they were drunk, Lalna being one of the happiest drunks she had ever met. Suddenly she smelt that familiar smell of ozone. Scanning around she looked back over to the three happy drunks and saw them ready to down their sixth drink when suddenly their tankards disappeared from the hands.
‘W-what? Oi! Who’s stolen me beer!’ Honeydew thundered, one thing anyone should know is that you should never separate a dwarf from their mead, it would only end badly.
They then heard someone approaching from the tiny Jaffahapton town square and everyone looked up and saw the demi god walk up to them, partly ducking down to avoid hitting his head on the lower edge of the beer garden’s tarpaulin roof. Sometimes being among the tallest of the Yogs had its down sides.
‘Heeey! Buddy-bud-bud! There’s old Ridgedoggy and his goofy puffy sleeves and stupid coat!’ Honeydew drunkenly stated.
Ridge held a look of displeasure on his face, clearly not happy with the drunken insults that were being thrown at him.
‘Hey fancy pants, you wanna join us?’ Lalna slurred while pointing to the beer-spattered tabletop.
‘I rather not’ Ridge said bluntly, readjusting his coat with a quick tug of his lapels.
‘Ridge, is there something wrong?’ Ember asked as she got up from her seat and approached the demi god.
‘You and the heroes are in grave-’
Honeydew suddenly burped loudly and wetly, making the drunken Xephos and Lalna laugh like naughty schoolboys.
Irritated, Ridge then dug deep into his pocket and pulled out three blue mushrooms, Terra Warts.
‘Eat these and listen to me for more than five minutes with out being three obnoxious drunken idiots’ he stated matter-o-facticity.
‘Oh...that’s not furry- very nice’ Lalna quickly corrected himself, covering his mouth with a hand as a burp escaped passed his lips.
Ridge still held an unsatisfied look on his face and he tossed the Terra Warts onto the table, the three blue mushrooms bounced in front of the drunken men’s empty tankards like small rubber balls. The three of them then grabbed the dark blue funguses and scoffed them down and instantly their drunken effects cleared up as the fungus soaked up the alcohol from within their bellies, and they were quickly sober once again.
‘R-right what’s all this about Ridge?’ Xephos asked as he stood up, soothing out his shirt and jacket, which had been screwed from when he was happily drunk.
‘Your lives are in danger’ Ridge came straight out.
‘When are they not?’ Honeydew muttered as he stood up, some dizzy effects lingered but were clearing up slowly.
‘In danger on the night of Halloween? When are we not in danger on Halloween?’ Lalna stated matter-o-facticity.
‘Either way, this danger is far worst then any other Halloween night you guys had. Have any of you ever heard of the ancient spirit, Metus?’ the demi god questioned them.
‘Who?’ they all asked in union.
Ridge’s expression stayed flat as he blinked in disbelief.
‘I guess not then. Why haven’t you’ve heard of him? You two especially, you heroes must have learned something about him on your travels’ Ridge said as he glanced at the two heroes.
‘No, doesn’t ring a bell’ Honeydew said simply while shrugging his shoulders.
Ridge sighed.
‘Alright, Metus is the fear spirit. He is an ancient spirit that slumbers for a hundred years and then on the night of Halloween upon the hundredth year, a special lunar eclipse occurs called the Dark Moon. When the moon transforms to black and ringed with a blood red glow... this spirit awakens’ Ridge explained.
‘Well I guess after a long time of hibernation, you have to get up to get something to eat. And what’s better then having some trick-or-treat candy after a one hundred year nap’ Honeydew stated.
Xephos suppressed a snigger.
‘That’s not what he does’ Ridge stated, anger creeping up in his voice, he was growing very aggravated because they weren’t listening to him.
‘Does he scare people?’ Lalna figured.
The demi god’s patients finally snapped.
‘Not just any people, but heroes you idiot!’ Ridge shouted, his brown irises flickered white as his Higher Power threatened to burst forth.
Lalna stepped back in fear, his mouth in a half open gape as the demi god stared him down with those white glowing eyes and white glowing aura tribal markings that lined across parts of his body.
‘Ridge! Stop it!’ Ember warned, stepping forward and putting herself in front of Lalna, her hands glowing with gold light to defend the scientist if the demi god suddenly attacked.
Realizing his actions, Ridge took a couple of breaths to help calm himself down and his eyes and aura marks seized glowing.
‘Apologies heroes. Even though I’ve master my Higher Power, my emotions can still get the best of me’ Ridge apologized.
‘Eh it happens to the best of us’ Honeydew stated.
‘Anyway, tonight is the Dark Moon and Metus is coming upon this Halloween tonight to test you, all of you’ Ridge said as he gestured to everyone.
‘Even me?’ Lalna asked, wondering if his resent change in becoming one of the legendary heroes counted him into this situation.
Ridge nodded, to which made Lalna pull at his collar. Ember placed a hand of comfort on Lalna’s shoulder.
‘What exactly does he test?’ Ember asked the demi god.
‘Your fears. He uses his dark illusionary powers to recreate them before your very eyes’ Ridge said.
‘Pah! That doesn’t sound all that scary’ Xephos scoffed.
‘So you think brave spaceman, but Metus’ name doesn’t mean “fear” for nothing. He creates your own deep personal dreads, everything and anything you fear he can recreate them. This spirit has scared to death many heroes before your time. The scarier the fear, the far more nightmarish the illusion is’
‘Wait hang on, he comes during Halloween once every hundred years at same time as this the Dark Moon, but what happens after that?’ Ember asked.
‘He returns to the Spirit Realm to slumber once again’ Ridge answered.
‘So he turns up, scares us and then leaves?’ Lalna asked.
‘Not exactly, there’s a catch’
‘There always is, is there not?’ Honeydew stated with a roll of his eyes.
‘In order to create these illusions, he will incase those in rare spirit crystals called Dark Plasmin Crystal. Once trapped inside, the spectral power of the crystal clouds over the victims minds, creating believable illusions to trick even the smartest of minds’ Ridge explained.
‘He incases people in crystals? How do they get out?’ Xephos asked.
‘There is only one way out, and it’s by conquering your fears’
‘That doesn’t sound so bad’ Lalna scoffed.
‘Yeah, we can beat this guy’s test easy-peasy’ Honeydew stated, totally chilled out and in no way scared at all.
‘But if you can’t break free before the end of the Dark Moon...’ the demi god began.
They turned their attention back to Ridge.
‘Then you’ll trapped within your nightmares forever’ Ridge said in a serious grim tone.
‘You mean...if we can’t face our fears before the night’s over...we’ll be forever trapped?’ Ember asked.
Ridge nodded his head, his features solemn.
The situation suddenly took a serious turn, the possibility of being sealed in crystal for the rest of time weighed heavily in their minds.
‘What are we going to do? What if we fail?’ Xephos questioned, his voice full of worry.
‘That’s why I’ve come up with a back up plan, Metus only appears during the time of the Dark Moon and leaves once the moon sets from the sky. So all you need to do is hide out till the morning’ Ridge explained.
‘So we hide and not take the test?’ Honeydew asked.
‘Exactly’
‘Well that sounds like what every school child does when a test comes up, so I’ll be more than happy to hide’ Honeydew stated.
Xephos gave him a peculiar look.
Ridge then snapped his fingers and a rolled up parchment materialized in front of the spaceman, startling the glowing blue-eyed man.
‘Take this map, it will lead you to a cave that’s very special. No dark spirit can enter its boundaries. Inside you should all be safe from Metus. Now go, time is short’ Ridge said.
‘Hang on, you want us to hide? You don’t think we can take him? Ridge, you trained me for this kind of thing!’ Ember argued.
‘Not against a spirit, not against Metus. Do as your told and go with them. If Metus can’t find you four by the time the Dark Moon is over, then you four heroes will be safe’
‘Yeah but–’
Ridge held up a hand to which Ember stopped talking. He then lead her away from the other three so that he could speak privately to her.
‘We cannot risk the heroes lives especially with Israphel’s threat becoming worst than ever.
‘We can fight Metus off together! The Heroes Diamond-’
Ridge interrupted her with another hand gesture.
‘If Metus imprisons them and they can’t fight off their fears, there will be no one to defend Minecraftia from the Dark Lord’s wrath. The world needs the heroes Ember, the Heroes of Light are the only things standing up against the Tainted Sands that threatens to shroud this world in darkness’ Ridge told her.
Ember peered over her shoulder at Honeydew and Xephos, and then her eyes trailed over to Lalna. She promised herself that she would not only protect the heroes, but to protect Lalna as well. He saved her from Israphel, so she will always protect him.
The altered girl drooped her shoulders as she gave a sigh.
‘Okay, if you really think that’s what should be done’ Ember finally said.
‘Thank you Ember’ the demi god smiled.
Before Ember turned to leave with the heroes and Lalna, Ridge lightly took her shoulder, making the altered girl look up at her teacher.
‘Remember Ember. Fear is an illusion, only when you can be free from your fears can you truly become a hero of legend’
Ember wasn’t sure what that meant but she merely nodded, and with that the demi god vanished into thin air, the smell of ozone lingered around where he stood moments ago.
‘Right then, let’s get a move on’ Xephos spoke up as he studied the map, beginning to follow it with Honeydew and Lalna following after him.
Ember turned and caught up with the other three and the headed off into the evening twilight.

It's ok friend, we're all like that sometimes. But it basically means "laughing in the face of danger."
