So sad, that poor kid. The way it happened sounds torturous.

I recently heard they are going to remake it.. I'm not to happy with that out come since it still holds up to the current scary movies Hollywood puts out, thank you

it kinda destroys the dream and memories we have of those 80's movies, there my fav, with the pre-numeric age of special effects, I mean , I'm in awe of those super computers effects, but the old school effects have almost a personal attachment quality that I don't want to see smashed you know? Hollywood is destroying my childhood memories of movies

I know exactly what you mean, it was the same thing I thought when I watched the new Superman movie, the flying seemed so fake for some reason. when I watched Christopher Reeves fly in the first one it felt like "Oh my god he is really flying!!" with Superman Returns it was just "oh he's hanging from wires in front a blue screen". some of the effect back then added to the humanity of the character now it's mainly done to "look pretty" really takes away from the plot and feeling that is going on.

I really love the size difference between Carol Anne and the T.V. This is one of my favourite horror movies ever, and you've really captured that ghostly and quite sinister atmosphere.

Yes I was trying to making it seem as if the tv wanted to just swallow her up. that movie freaked me out as a child I had a great terror that a clown was under my bed ready to kill me. I have come to love the film in my later years.

Which is exactly what it did. Poor Carol Anne. I liked the family feel to this movie, which I think is due to Spielberg. It meshed well with Tobe's skill for horror and yes, that clown gave me the creeps big time!

Very true, instead of tearing apart the family it actually made them stronger. I think Poltergeist was truly an original movie visually, plot wise and the actors where just so real in the situations they were given. scenes like the father walking around unshaven with the air of a battle hardened solder when showing the scientist around the rooms or the mother on the walls being attacked by this malevolent force and lord that little old lady! i hope this is never remade this was just perfect the way it is no one could ever replace carol anne, that little girl was such a talent.

JoBeth Williams gave such a strong performance in this amongst excellent supporting cast. Her desperation at trying to get her little girl back really heightened the tension in this movie. One scene that really sticks out for me is when the little lady psychic Tangina tells the parent's to 'hold on to yourselves, there's something else in there with her'. The looks on their faces - pure terror in anticipation of what is with their little girl is heartstopping.
I also hope it is never remade. I don't understand why filmmakers try to improve on things that are already perfect. There's only one way it can turn out and that's not as good - so why bother?
I agree the little girl was so utterly sweet and vulnerable with an otherworldly air that you couldn't replace.

Sorry, I hate to be nitpicky, but the tv wasn't the one that swallowed her up. It was the closet. That's just a common misconception.
However, that being said, I love this picture!
