Dds are not based on, or indicative of any specific level of technique. As it is not an award, or reward, there is no requirement for any image to be anything specific. And because it's not an award, or reward, nothing "deserves" a dd, because it's just a daily feature, based on my personal tastes. You're welcome to not like something I feature, but if all you're going to comment on is why you don't think it should be a dd, please contact me personally instead of leaving comments for the artist, who had nothing to do with it being featured.

I am quite aware of what a DD is claimed to be, but the fact that they are a huge part of this site, given their own area and trigger responses of "OMG thank you so much for the DD!" means that they are a prize whether you say they are or not. I am perfectly happy with you liking this picture, I can see why many people would. I like a lot of pictures too, and I leave a nice comment and add them to my favourites instead of suggesting all of them for a DD. The point is that a DD is meant to be "impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large" and it is my opinion - and apparently the opinion of many others - that this image is neither impressive or interesting. A large chunk of my comment focuses on the meaning behind the picture instead of the quality, and that is what bothers me. Sometimes, lower-quality photos portray a thoughtful image; after all, it shouldn't be down to who has the most expensive camera.
Also, there is very little point in anyone contacting you personally. The idea of an art website is that everyone can give their opinion. We don't all have to love your choice of DD and we don't have to keep quiet about it, messaging you privately so that you can fob us off separately. I personally wanted to post this comment so that people drooling over a naked woman and the people insulting it for no good reason can understand a different view. Apologies if that sounds a little harsh, but from the comments you leave around, I can assure you that you are in no place to accuse other peoples' comments of being rude.

Rude? Me? I feel the only places I've been rude here today are in response to people calling the model a whore, or stating this wasn't art. My comment to you certainly wasn't rude, nor did I say you had been rude.

And again, DDs are NOT based on quality or a specific technique level. You're welcome to leave a critique - I even encourage it, though do be aware this is the MODEL, not the photographer, so leaving critique of the photograph is misplaced, but questioning why this is a DD is against site policy, not just mine.
FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

So critique away, but leave off on "this shouldn't be a DD." Or, better yet, send me suggestions for things you do think "should" be DDs. I welcome all suggestions from the art nude photography and fetish photography galleries.

Couldn't agree more - I find that most nude photographs end up getting DDs instead of talented illustrators and artisans using traditional mediums.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyx-Valentine In reply to misscoffee [2011-12-07 00:17:25 +0000 UTC]

That is in no way accurate at all. There is no limit to the number of daily deviations every day, so a nude being featured has nothing to do with something else not being featured. Also, all the community volunteers feature from a specific gallery, and nothing else. I feature art nudes, and fetish photography, not illustration or traditional art. So, again, me featuring a nude has nothing to do with those other mediums being featured. If you would like to see those mediums featured more often, you should send suggestions to their respective community volunteers, which can be found in #communityrelations rather than leaving rude and inaccurate comments on this persons page, who had nothing to do with it being featured.

An average of 4 mediocre T&A photos are given DDs every day. That's on average 120 works of actual art being overlooked and ignored every month.

Feel free to send in suggestions then. I've never received a single one from you, so until you're part of the solution? You're part of the problem.

MJWilliam In reply to Nyx-Valentine [2011-12-07 17:52:10 +0000 UTC]

When you're told by fellow artists that none of the suggestions they've sent in for the past 5+ years have ever been featured, you tend to think, "why bother?"

You get hundreds of way better suggestions that this kind of crap every single day. YOU choose the crap. Yet I'm "part of the problem"? Hmm.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyx-Valentine In reply to MJWilliam [2011-12-07 18:28:32 +0000 UTC]

I think, of the suggestions I get, baring those that I've already featured the artist, or already has 2 or more Dds, or has had a dd within the past three months, I personally feature about 95% of the things suggested to me. Those I don't feature are usually on the grounds of technique - blurry cell shots, and the like, and occasionally, images I don't feature because I feel it's not fair to put the artist in the way of that much controversy. While Dds are selected based on personal taste, I frequently feature images I'm not personally fond of, because they are good images.

And I hardly get "hundreds" of suggestions. I wish I did, then I could spend less time searching for things. And I get suggestions for a huge wide
variety of subjects. Some of which you may think are "better", some of which I'm sure you would feel are worse. So yes, feel free to send suggestions any time. I do respond to every note I receive, and even if I do t feature something, I'll let you know why. And if you don't like my answer, there is another art nudes volunteer, ^ladytwiglet that you can send suggestions to as well. But I can't feature things I know you personally willl like, because I don't know you personally. The easiest way to resolve this, rather than complaining about things I've already featured, which doesn't fix anything, because I'm not going to unfeature it, is to send me suggestions for things you do want to see. Be proactive, rather than reactive.

You're taking this way too personally. My comment wasn't directed personally at you, nor are you the only person responsible for choosing DDs. This isn't about MY failure to send in great suggestions, it's about YOUR questionable choices. Don't twist it.

And, while not intentional, I've noticed that the same artists do seem to get DD after DD approximately every 3-4 months. Not only that, a lot of them already have gazillion views and comments and hardly need promoting. When I feature deviations in my journal (so yes, I do try to be proactive), I try to choose them based on how much exposure an artist has had. There may be pieces I like more, but I won't choose them because they're already getting plenty of attention. I think that should be the approach with DDs as well.

This amazing artist has no DDs: [link] Neither does this one: [link] There are a ton others I don't have the time to look for right now. Yes, I understand I didn't send you those suggestions. But I'm willing to bet you got many others that deserve more attention than some bimbo showing off her lady bits in a poorly executed photo. You're seriously going to tell me you only chose this because there was nothing else better?

Nyx-Valentine In reply to MJWilliam [2011-12-07 23:00:45 +0000 UTC]

I like that you tell me it's not personal, and then deliver a personal attack.

I've already laid out my guidelines for you. I don't dd people twice, and I don't dd people with more than two Dds already. Good for you for doing your own features, and you can do them however you wish.

If you wish to make suggestions for the artistic nude photography gallery, or the fetish photography gallery, feel free to do so any time, to my inbox so I can keep track, and respond appropriately. Both of the artists you've linked here don't have work in either of the galleries I volunteer for, so obviously, I won't be featuring either of them. Feel free to suggest them to the appropriate community volunter, whom you can find in the #communityrelations group.

Have a great day.

And so is the respect and talent between the two sites. You can find discussions like this all over DA, it isn't especially hard, try heading to teh forums where all the little kiddie trolls hang out.

First off, some of these comments are just... wow... Nice tits? Really, out of a shot like that her tits are all you could comment on? It's called Deviant ART not Deviant Porn... her tits should only be a part of the picture not the focus. =_= ANYWAY

I personally like the picture. However, there is just a tad too much shading on one side of the photo, which makes your own shadow kind of look a little lonely over there. The upper body pose I also like, it's bold and strong and the look on your face is simply dominatrix like. It goes well with the rock structure you are posed on. However, the lower body is slightly awkward. I don't know, something about the way your leg stick out. I can't exactly say what it is, but it just seems awkward to me. The red cloth also helps bring you to focus adding to the strength of your boldness. It's a bold red... it works.

lol if youre posed like this, making a duckface and flashing your fake boobies, you are likely gonna get shallow comments like "nice tits". in fact the only reason i clicked on the thumbnail was cuz i was thinking the same thing.

im sure this pic isnt intended for the viewer to find anything deep and meaningful in it, so yeah, fake tits and duckface warrants shallow responses from me and a lot of others (even if you don't admit it). i have nothing against hotties who wanna show off their goods, its just you better be prepared for people to be all "fap fap" about it.

Not a picture of a naked lady on rocks that's for sure... I wouldn't mind if she just had it in her gallery but I find it retarded she got a DD for it... That is why I said "it is shitty art". Any idiot can strip naked or find a naked model and take a picture on rocks... So don't sit here and throw the question in my face if I know what art is. I may not be too good myself, but I do know true art when I see it.

Art is subjetive so while there's people that may find this as art, there's people that won't.

Also, don't make such a fuss because she got a DD, is not like she got an award or anything. The mod just liked the picture and decided to feature it for a day

Art is subjective, so no point in being upset about that.

However, this picture again makes me wonder about how they choose the daily deviations as this clearly is a below average picture and dozens, if not hundreds of similar, but much better ones are being uploaded each and every day.

And, if you have an issue, or questions about something I've featured, please feel free to contact me personally, rather than leaving comments for the artist, who had nothing to do with her work being featured, and doesn't deserve rude comments about how you think it shouldn't have been.

The same way Manga/ anime is. .3. Some people love it, while others detest it and don't consider it art at all. Art is subjective and down to an individual to decide if they like it or not.
