Yin (white cat), Yang (black dog), and Koh (grey snake) all live together in a realm thats just kinda never ending repeating grasslands, and in the center theres a cave where Yin and Yang hang out. Yin and Yang both have respective necklaces that don't do much but give them wings and boost their powers, all three of them have minor powers such as levitating, transforming, power beams, etc.
Yin and Yang are gods to two different worlds/universes, Yin's populated by cats and Yang's populated by dogs. Koh doesn't have his own universe, he's just kinda there trying to figure out what his purpose is. Yin and Yang's jobs are to decide if a soul has been good or bad by reading their memories, basically the classic God's Judgement. If good, they're sent to "heaven," if bad- they stop existing. If they have important unfinished business, they're sent back down as ghosts.
Yin and Yang and Koh all hang out together, and the two mammals are much more experienced and smarter than Koh (because ever since he popped into existence, he doesn't really do much). None of them age physically, and their capacity to learn is that of an adult's. Koh acts similar to a child at this point in the story, Yang doesn't take a liking to him but Yin acts sisterly/motherly towards him. He's very awkward and curious, and asks Yin and Yang a lot of questions when they're not busy with judgement.
One day, Yin and Yang entrust Koh with their necklaces, he combines them into one and that keeps him entertained for a bit. Shortly after, he doesn't know it, but he discovers his hidden power to traverse other universes. This is due to the necklaces giving him a boost, as he cannot do that without them. In one universe, he meets a bakeneko named Chi (owned by my old friend Yachi). They become best friends/lovers, and after a while, Koh decides to take her back with him to introduce her to Yin and Yang.
Yin and Yang get upset with Koh for not immediately telling them about what he discovered regarding the necklace (they think that it's a power of the necklace, not a power specific to Koh). They order him to put Chi back in her universe, and come back to talk with them privately. They take the necklace away from Koh, break it back into two halves and say that Koh will get it back once they're done with it, and when he learns to be more responsible.
Koh, not exactly mentally stable, gets defensive, scared, and angry at them. He's scared that he'll never see Chi again, and mad that they're acting like they have authority over him. They get into a fight over the necklaces, and they end up banishing Koh to Yin's cat-populated world for the time being to think about his actions.
There, koh transforms into a cat to blend in, freaks the heck out, and seeks vengeance against the two gods. He eventually discovers while he may be immortal, he can still get hurt and die. After about a year of blending in and being careful, he's brought back to Yin and Yang for a second chance. Immediately, he tries to take the necklaces by force and run, but he is overpowered, and banished once more. They mention that this time, only after a certain number of souls have been judged, will he be brought back for a third chance to redeem himself.
Koh, getting the wrong idea, decides to start killing off mortals to speed up the process of his return. He grows cold and distant from everyone, and explores the mortal world during his exile. During this time some other plot things happen relating to other characters in the universe: He gives some levitation power to Willow in exchange for her "live-forever" potion. He gets closer to Willow and Stella, Willow is decapitated and brought back to life, he meets other cats and kills quite a few.
After many many years, he forgets his original goal - returning to Chi - and only thinks about getting his revenge on Yin and Yang. Eventually, the soul quota is met, and Koh returns to the limbo-area. In this final confrontation, Koh manages to kill Yin and Yang. Because of their death, the limbo world deteriorates into a black void, and so does heaven, causing those souls to fall back to the mortal world either as ghosts or zombies.
Koh inherits the "passing judgement" job, but he only sends souls back to their dead bodies as corrupted zombies.
