- (former) best friend: XCAT REF

This character exists in the OC World universe, to understand their story it's recommended that you check out this universe summary first before reading about them!

OC WORLDThe OC (Original Character) world is a universe where OCs that aren't living in any specific universe that their creator made, exist.
They appear in the OC world when the person who created them (in our world) first imagines their existence/design/personality. Where they appear depends on where the owner thinks their OC would live, be it a city or a forest, they appear in the most similar concept to the owners original vision.
The world is full of all different types of OCs (animals, monsters, humans, scribbles, literally anything that could be considered a character) from all over the real world and they're made by many different kinds of people, ranging from toddlers to professional artists. The stronger the connection between an OC and its owner, the more the OC vaguely knows about them and the truth behind their own existence.
When an OC is forgotten about in the real world, their colors fade and they essentially die in the OC world. And when an OC is killed in the OC world, their

Slyth was first created in the real world as an adoptable, and was later kept by his own creator who grew attached to him. When he appeared in the OC world, he met other characters of the same species, all designed by the same person. ( Here's an example of one of a few of them: Bijou Reference    Dontello Reference  )

Slyth & the others he met were unfortunately captured and brought to an area where OCs are taken in as slaves, and are auctioned off to companies that need workers or whatever else.

They were sold to a company who's purpose is to "help" boring/bad looking OCs by redesigning them (doing surgery on them) and making them look more unique - for a high price of course - so that other characters wouldn't stereotype them.
Hypocritically, behind the scenes of the company, they have plain OCs working & living in their factories as slaves.

Here's the reference of the character who owns the company & runs the factory,: emmabebe.deviantart.com/art/Cr…
(You'll probably want to read up his backstory & personality to understand his motives and why he treats Slyth differently.)

When Slyth and the others were brought into the factory, Slyth was given a job. The others were sent to the processing center - which is basically - to their deaths. The processing center is where they kill characters and then later their desirable parts are cut from them, such as horns, wings, hooves, fur, arms, extra eyes, tails, accessories, etc.

Because of his dexterity (compared to an animal like a cat, which just has paws), Slyth was given a job in surgically removing the desirable parts from corpses. At first, all the workers are told that the characters they're working on were already dead when they were brought in - but when Slyth is accidentally given one of the characters from the adoptable batch he was in, he figures out the truth on his own.

Life at the factory was sub-par for Slyth, due to all of the other workers despising him because he got special treatment from Mr. Smiley - the boss. (Things like, calling Slyth by his actual name rather than a number, being weirdly affectionate towards him, being more lax with the rules for him, etc)

After an... especially bad day, Slyth tried to escape, but he got caught and put in the detention room, unconscious.

What usually happens after someone gets put in the detention room, is that they're buckled down to a chair in a dark room for an entire day, and towards the end they're given their warning slip on their arm by one of the guards before they're released back into the factory. (A warning slip is a tally mark branded onto their arm.)

However, this time after the guards told Mr. Smiley what had happened, Mr. Smiley decided to go talk to him. They talked for a bit which was incredibly awkward for Slyth, and Mr. Smiley explained to him why he'd been acting weird towards him (he'd only figured out why recently). He then demoted Slyth to a different job around more of the other workers that just do tedious work, and then proceeded to brand Slyth's arm - but used chloroform on him so that Slyth didn't feel most of it and passed out.

Slyth's new work consisted of small jobs such as washing the OC parts, fixing them up, organizing them, or painting them to be more vibrant (since they're greyish because they came from dead characters). He was also finally given a white hard hat with his new identification numbers like all of the other workers.

Throughout his time in the factory, he'd made friends with a small black cat named Xcat. (ref here - XCAT REF  ) Xcat worked in the area Slyth now works at so they're able to talk more, and they came up with another plan for escape.

Xcat eventually told Slyth about his brother, a large black cat beast named "Beast." (ref here - BEAST  ) Beast was trapped in the factory's basement and was used to dispose of characters who reached 3 strikes, because Beast eats literally anything. Xcat is the only one who can communicate with Beast at all.

Xcat didn't know Beast was locked away somewhere in the factory until Slyth told him, and their new escape plan revolved around freeing him. After a while of finalizing the plan, Slyth and Xcat take action, and get the beast free. It rampages and destroys some of the factory, and Slyth & Xcat ride on him into the night.

Some time passes, and the two now have their own house in the hills in a cave somewhere far away from that factory.

One day the two stumble across a severely deformed looking character wandering around in the woods, and out of pity, try to "help" them. Because of Slyth's experience with working on bodies he's able to fix them slightly, and lets them go. Eventually, Slyth gets into a habit of doing this with similar cases Xcat happens to find out in the woods. Xcat brings Slyth characters, alive to help, or dead to experiment on. (The dead ones are usually already dead when Xcat finds them... usually.)

Because of all of the free time Slyth has, he reads a lot of books and articles on the internet, and gets into programming and robotics. One of the dead bodies Xcat brings to Slyth is turned into a vessel for a robot AI project Slyth named "Upload." At first, he tried to upload the dead body's brain into the robot so he wouldn't have to program an entire artificial intelligence by himself, but it didn't work, and he ended up having to do just that.

In the end, the brain's personality and the new AI turned out to conflict because Slyth never removed his first attempt, and while the brain was in control, "Upload" ran away.

( Upload/Adobe's reference/story is here! Adobe is the name of the cat before he died. - Upload/Adobe Ref  )

Slyth was super pumped that once of his robotic experiments finally worked, and was devastated when it escaped. Before he was finished with it, even.

More time passes and on one fateful day while Slyth is reading a book, he hears a loud scream nearby, and it sounds like Xcat. Slyth runs to the aid of his friend to find that Upload came back and murdered Xcat while the brain half was in control. The robot notices Slyth and goes to attack him as well, but Beast steps in at the last second and almost eats Upload entirely. Slyth stops him and makes Beast spit him out, and then Beast leaves, likely never to be seen again now that Xcat is gone.

The robot's body is really badly injured, and it's pretty much dead at this point, so Slyth decides to revamp them since he has nothing else to do. He makes sure to take out the original brain's personality this time, but after turned back on, Upload still leaves him, but comes back to visit every once in a while.

From then on Slyth is just a very lonely depressed guy that doesn't know what to do with himself.
