Confession time: I like the Peter Jackson King Kong more than the 1933 one I love it; I can't help it. I cry every time I see it. And this particularly is what I like about it because I think this is what it got right - the relationship between Ann and Kong. In the original, she's scared the whole time and doesn't want anything to do with him. That's really boring. I won't even go into how uncomfortable the 1976 one makes me feel, with the waterfall and then back at Kong's lair... *shudder*
But anyway, the '05 movie has her fall in love with him and vise-versa, but not in a romantic or sexual way; it's more of a connection between two lonely souls. I heard in a review around the time the movie came out that Jack may love and want Ann, but he can't need her as much as Kong, which I really agree with. He needs Ann's compassion when all he's faced for maybe the last hundred and fifty years (one estimate of how old he was!) is loneliness and giant T-Rexes trying to eat him. I think she needs him, too.
Wanted to at least get a hint of the Gustave Doré Paradise Lost illustrations that inspired the look of the '33 film.

I liked the Peter Jackson version because he made a really good remake but I prefer the original because it's my favorite movie of all time but still they are to similar for me to hate the remake

I too love the 05 version.
I do enjoy the old classic as any movie lover would, but in that one, Ann is scared of Kong through the whole matter even after he saves her several times and shows his gentleness with her. That's just too sad.
I do remember the one in the 70s when I was bawling my eyes out as he was dying at the top of the Trade Center and she was trying to save him by begging him to pick her up so they would stop shooting, but he cared too much for her that he gently moves her aside for her safety.
Then when the '05 movie came around, I never thought I would cry so hard at an ending that was so predictable. Yes, it was a beautiful love they shared-- not romantic nor sexual (thank goodness) but so beautiful.

I absolutely LOVE the 05' version! I definitely prefer Peter Jackson's version over the other two incarnations (I DEFINITELY prefer it over the 76' version, that's for sure). Yeah, it's pretty long, but visually, I love it. And Ann's interactions with Kong are sweet (well, not at first, but you know).

Me too. I find it really hard to watch, but I still love their scenes together!

This is awesome! You did really well conveying the tone of the relationship between these two. I agree, it's something where these two lonely souls finally found that connection. Again of course not sexual, but something very, very deep. I love it, well done!

D'awwww. Thanks. Yeah, it's just a really sweet love story without romance. I'm always ugly crying at the end, though.

UGH, I know. I'm usually sniffling by at least when they reconnect and go ice skating. GEEZ, PETER AND ANDY, WHY'D YOU HAVE TO MAKE HIM SO LIKABLE.
