oil on circular canvas 50cm diameter

the spookiest (and strangest) Bond... alligators, snakes, voodoo drug dealers, man eating sharks, clairvoyance, rednecks, afros, and New Orleans, what's not to love?!

Bond: There seems to have been a mistake. My name is...
Mr. Big: Names is for tombstones, baby!

design not totally my own, this Death card is one of the actual tarot cards from the movie i found on one of many bond websites, I just changed its background from red to brown [link]

some strange muddy mark has appeared in this photo left of skeleton - it is not like that on the actual painting, its blended!

Great painting. Live and Let Die is my all-time favorite Bond film. . . mainly because of the role that Voodoo plays in the movie.

I love your style! The use of shadow is brilliant, and it's realistic, but retaining a somewhat stylized appearance.
One of my favourite Bond girls... beautiful, and a mystical sense about her. Wonderful to see a painting of her.

EmmaMount In reply to VFireFalcon [2008-11-17 23:14:13 +0000 UTC]

thanks so much for saying those things, its kind of spot on, i like it to be realistic but stylised, and i do go for subjects where i can use lots of light and shadow (for a bit more drama i guess)

thanks for liking solitaire too, i love Bond but it can be quite naff at times, but i always thought she was one of the more intriguing girls, i like the whole tarot voodoo theme too

VFireFalcon In reply to EmmaMount [2008-11-18 02:07:19 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. I always appreciate paintings that have such an artistic quality to them... many paintings or drawings are incredibly realistic, but it looks like the artist hasn't left their style in it. You put a good deal of drama into it, as in addition.
Yes, the voodoo theme was interesting, and considerably different from other Bonds. Although I have to say I don't think I like Solitare as much as I do Electra King... she was an incredible character.

EmmaMount In reply to VFireFalcon [2008-11-20 23:59:40 +0000 UTC]

she's very cool, but i feel the Bond films were kind of lost in the wilderness at that time so i'm not so attached to them
i love the vintage feel and nostalgia of the old Bond girls and settings and baddies, and the clothes, cars and interiors
and now thank god Daniel Craig has breathed new life back into it all, I haven't seen the new one, but I thought Casino Royale was pretty exciting

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VFireFalcon In reply to EmmaMount [2008-11-21 02:31:07 +0000 UTC]

That's true. I do appreciate the older Bonds more. I also liked the simpler gadgets... wristwatch garrotte wires are much more practical in my eyes than invisible cars.
Casino Royale was an intellectual dream. It didn't have the adrenaline rush of some of them, but I did appreciate it. I thought Craig was a bit stiff, but I still liked his no-nonsense approach, it rather reminded me of a combination of Connery and Dalton. Unfortunately, the new one disappointed me. I'd still recommend it, but it was much more Bourne Identity than classic Bond... it appealed to your gut, but not to your sense of class or humour. And I don't like the idea of sequels within Bond, unfortunately. And there's one more sequel to come.
I apologise if I'm ranting. I just love discussing Bond.

EmmaMount In reply to VFireFalcon [2008-11-21 13:49:20 +0000 UTC]

haha, no problem at all, i think when something's been going for as long as you've been alive you have every right to be an expert on it!
Yes Craig is no nonsense, but i found a kind of mysterious allure about him because he doesn't give too much away, he's very cool, kind of a man's man, he reminds me of Steve McQueen, but i do like how they showed how he got his heart broken which drove him to be the more cold hearted killer. I thought Eva Green was amazing.
But i agree about the simpler gadgets, i do miss some of the stuff like that that makes it Bond, like Miss Moneypenny too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VFireFalcon In reply to EmmaMount [2008-11-24 02:18:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Craig did add interesting dimension to the role. I personally think his Bond is the most faithful to Ian Fleming's character thus far. Sean Connery was close, but not quite.
I agree, Eva Green did an excellent job. Do you have any plans to paint her? I imagine it would be an interesting process, as she has such gorgeous facial structure and features.
I miss Moneypenny as well, she hasn't been on for a while. And Q, but there really isn't any chance of bringing that exact character back after Dennis Llewellyn died. He was the only character to have been played by only one actor through all of the movies.
I'm so glad you don't mind me rambling on. It's such a fun topic. Ever since discovering Bond I've been interested in the subject.

EmmaMount In reply to VFireFalcon [2008-11-26 22:45:19 +0000 UTC]

i don't mind at all! its interesting

just a question for your bond brain
didn't john cleese play Q once?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VFireFalcon In reply to EmmaMount [2008-11-27 01:11:45 +0000 UTC]

John Cleese was in The World is Not Enough, and he played Q's assistant. Dennis Llewelyn still played the real Q at that point. He also played the same character in Die Another Day, but was never intended to be Q... just a substitute, I suppose.
