I never cease to be amazed at how a picture can speak a thousand words. I believe tha you portray that in this pic. Xcellent pic!

lacks of contrast...too grey for me...sure the object stands out as black/dark against the grey building in the background...but some how it lacks interest...maybe the angle is too straight on...and didn't give it a punch and emotions...if you want to relate it back to the 9-11 event then i guess it works for the relationship of the building the back standing tall and the piece infront is ruined...if i was you i would boost the contrast up a little bit more...to make the picture pop...like for the base of the monument...it looks too blend in w/ the bg...the centered composition i guess it works for these monumental shots...but other than that...i got nothing on it.....

I have a couple shots of this that I never submitted. It does seem to have a strong meaning to it. Pity about all that funding halting the project, looks to me that they'll never do anything with the site at this rate. Poignant shot, did you visit Trinity church across the street?

well-captured, I like how you made the subject silhouetted to emphasize its shape and the inherent meaning of that shape. It's a great shot with a lot of emotion.

Ain't that some shyt. Kinda hard to believe, but yea, if it's true, it does have a good meaning, even though I'm an atheist. Great shot!

I'm usually not into photography, but you captured a touching piece of a tragic event here. The black and white helps the cross stand out really well, and it's chilling in the sense that it's way too eerie to be coincidence...

it's always interesting to see something like this that has cultural significance and mythology associated with it. I agree with you in the description... who knows if it's true or not, but in a way, that doesn't matter anymore, for like your photo, the symbol of it is more important than the truth of whether or not it's planned or destined, if that makes any sense...

I love the contrast, and the angle, giving it more power and substance, as if it needed any of that, knowing all that happened that day... but it's a great capture nonetheless!

Wow... how interesting. You've captured it really nicely. It's a bit of a shame that you can't quite read what's been written on the cross.

lmsmith [2006-06-17 08:40:10 +0000 UTC]

If that is true then it is a coincidence or a sign. lovely shot though

VortexQueen [2006-06-16 23:08:01 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. I wouldn't think it's true, but it's the meaning of the catastrophe and what was left behind that counts here, really.

Hmm... I'm not that much of an expert at photography (I did some in college and university, but nothing intensive or too serious on my part ) but I find that it may have been a good idea to bright the contrast a bit higher around the structure so we would have seen more details about it. Without reading the descrition, I could tell it was a cross, but that strange shape from the rumble was hard to distinguished. It kinda looked like someone hanging from it, or a large coat... Couldn't really tell.

Aside from that, I like how it stands out so much, and it's definitly a meaningful piece

the concrete base almost looks photoshopped, though.

oh and black and white is best. gives it the best mood.
