Description [R5]

In the downtime before Lem released, I played a lightly modded singleplayer game and got a little too attached to my leaders – so here I’ve drawn the lying-in-state of one of my favourites, Klumetos sú-Boten. They were a big wartime leader early on, and were one of the last of my original crew of leaders to die off, so I felt like drawing their funeral, which I imagine would have been a big deal for the nation.

Regarding the art itself, I apologise if it seems a bit dark, I did try to experiment a bit with contrast.

TITLE : DEATH AND FUNERAL OF KLUMETOS SÚ-BOTEN
AUTHOR AND COMMENTATOR: GURIMUSH YOR-TAREN

“…know that I feel no hate towards them. I love my family, I love my people, I love my hometown, and I have always loved my country. But I love, too, the beings that inhabit this galaxy, and my love for them is stronger than their hate, especially that which they show their own kind. That was Klumetos sú-Boten.”

That indeed was Klumetos sú-Boten.

The last words of a fine apai, a talented soldier and an inspiring leader, spoken by her friend and the incumbent Warden, Aspetuki dá-Kupan.

Noble sú-Boten was an apai of victory. Warden and commander of the Republic during her invasion of the Estikeran Kingdom, she led the forces of democracy to an easy victory over tyranny. A master of balancing the egos of her generals and the resources at hand, she knew how to attain victory at minimal cost through skill and hard work. Even in old age, she remained on the move, dedicated to philanthropy and sports in those golden years.

And so, they mourned for her on Apai Nortu, as they did throughout the Republic. The wizened leader they all called ‘Lumei’ had left them. On this warm summer eve, thousands watched on as their old Warden’s cortege ascended the steps to the Hall of Epitaphs, deep in the nation’s heart, to be laid in wake for two days.
