Description
The venerable Razor Class is one of the most common sights in the Union and is a symbol of the Navy Core and the Union as a whole almost as much as the Dart. Having origins like its cruiser cousin all the way back in the Bridgehead War the Razor has been a cornerstone of Union fleet doctrine and design since its creation. Firmly designed for defensive coverage and protection of capital ships as well as other fleet elements the Razor has never been an outstanding ship to ship combatant. Armed with numerous light mass drivers the Razors primary job is to create a wall of flak around both itself and its larger charges, typically a Dart class or larger to prevent incoming kinetic, missile or fighter attacks from striking. These ferocious flak walls can be combined by several Razors who usually work in pairs or fours for maximum defensive coverage and can be used in addition to say a Darts own flak walls to supplement. Such a storm of shrapnel is lethal to anything other than an energy weapon but these guns are more than capable of firing projectile sabots to engage other warships, while not particularly hard hitting the ROF of these guns is substantial and the Razor can shred smaller warships or hammer larger vessels with prescision fire to keep it either occupied or strike smaller systems with its quite impressive agility. The latest Horizon Razor is also now equipped with a large spinal mounted Gravitic Accelerator, giving it better staying power vs larger vessels and allows it to help contribute to long range fleet engagements in a more offensive role. Assisted by its light missile launchers the Razor is a perfect tool for the Unions tactics and wings of Razors can be found guarding larger Darts and others across the whole of Union space, whether that be patrolling the fringe of the galaxy or in the thick of the Unions largest fleet engagements.
