She is seeking something, bereft, forlorn, her heart is broken so she seeks something; there is longing and what almost appears to be desperation in her, but at the same time the strength to withhold herself, because as much as you can see she is reaching out... she is holding back.

Like a frost gripped spring morning still clinging to winter's chill, she masters her emotions behind walls of ice and stone, she places distance between herself and her desires... no matter how desperately she may want for them. It is the pause, while she does not deny her emotion, she denies herself its full release by aknowledging it exists but not exploring or expressing it fully.

I didnt really have much of a thought on her other than this complexity of emotional expressions I wanted to try to understand. While I am familiar with it, the paradox in the emotional maelstrom she is feeling, pulled in opposite directions at the same moment, it still fascinates me.

it touches upon all the years of reaching out, and reaching in... holding out, and holding it in...

Its fascinating how expressive the human face alone can be, and even more fascinating trying to capture the expressions of the emotion in something as small as a look in the eyes. With "the Animal Awakens" (:thumb72338419 you see the confident and agressive penetrating gaze that dares you to lock eyes with her, and once you do, you fall under her spell and must fight to look away. While this one is much the opposite, you can read something completely different in her expression... and it is those subtlties that fascinate me so, and really all that this particular sketch was about.
