Magic. It looks like magic nothing to do with books. Also she got her cutie mark right after her magic went crazy and Princess Celestia calmed her down. Again nothing to do with books

what did you use to draw that? I am curious as I suck at art... but I learned from Super Meat Boy practice practice practice, and finally decided since I like MLP to start practicing... I am just curious if you don't mind sharing, the tl;dr of how you made this because it looks like it fell out of the show!

Getting the style is just practice, using references, and drawing what you see.
My technique I think is fairly standard for drawing and coloring in a cel-shaded manner. I used Photoshop. I sketched her on a layer to get the form. I did inks on another layer in black. To color, I made a new layer and color under the lineart; for large flat areas, I like to use the magic wand, expand the selection by 2 pixels, and use the bucket to fill, and use the brush to fill in spots that don't get filled, or close off areas that aren't closed by my inks. I colored the inked lines by locking transparency on the ink layer, but I recently learned that using another layer as clipping mask over the ink layer works pretty good too. A lot of tutorials cover this kind of stuff.
