Artist Training Ground, Mock War, Day 1: Draw a pony in armor or uniform.This is my submission for day 1 of the artist training ground event. They're doing some sort of mock war story or something, looks like it'll be fun! I decided to draw Twilight in samurai armor; I know the popular pony to make a samurai is Applejack just because of Samurai Jack, but I just like drawing Twilight!

The lamellar panels are kinda lacking detail, but I like the armor concept!
You know, lamellar armor isn't limited to Japan! It was a design that spread throughout virtually all of Asia, by virtue of its practicality and relative cheapness, and eventually reached both North Africa and Eastern Europe! (The more you know!)

I don't know if you were intentionally going for this but the armor you gave Twilight reminds me of Katsuie "The Devil" Shibata's armor.

I know you came here to comment on the EPIC art piece, and you really have no interest in a show for "little girls", as you non-fandom members love to say.
Fine.
But if the picture in question contains something as important to us, such as the show's main character, you should be prepared for this to happen.
On an off-note, and I don't mean to try and force you to do anything against your will or judgement, but have you actually watched the show? Or have you just heard the many bias opinions about it? If so, I recomend watching the show. Not to become a "brony", or member of our fandom, but just to be able to say "Hey guys, I watched it, didn't really like it, leave me alone". After this is said a the MATURED side of our fanbase should leave you alone. Any who don't were not welcome to the fandom in the first place.

It's been awhile since I studied much about feudal Japan...what exactly is the difference between a shogun and a daimyo?

Shogun is the military ruler of all of (Japan)
Damiyo is the ruler of a single Samurai clan.
So Celestia would be a Damiyo, because there are so many other clan leaders out there. (eg: Crysalis, Cadance)

Hello there! I noticed this particular piece of art during the Mock War event. I did like the samurai armor, especially since it's the older lamellar type. My only qualm was that it was Twilight Sparkle... I like her, but it doesn't quite fit in with my plans for this picture. I'd like to ask for your permission to use this as the cover image for a fanfiction I'm making.
Here's the Prologue if you'd like to read it before attaching your picture to it. The title is Neighppon, Land of the Samurai. Using the EQD labelling system, I should say it's Grimdark and Shipping. You won't see much in the Prologue of that though, if that's not your thing.

Well you can use it if you want, just credit me. But if it's not too representative of your fanfic maybe you could find some other art that would be more applicable, I wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea from my art!

Paper armour was better for agility. And it was just as protective against attacks as well. Only one problem, it was difficult as hell to repair.

Makes sense to me, only TS has the discipline for bushido and all that. Dash would be a ninja, Pinkie would be one of those laughing monks, Applejack would be the humble farmer who secretly has kobudo weapons stashed.. oh god now I need to see Fluttershy and Rarity decked out in pony kimono..
