I'm glad i stuck around after the first three paragraphs (there are only so many examples that can be given before the trend annoys) because the last two paragraphs get to the point and do it well. I've been described as a nice guy myself... and I've taken more friends out to dinner than those who have treated me. gah... I don't know if I'm going to continue trying. I'd be happier as a cynicist.

The essay is a bit wordy, but I really didn't want to deviate from Jen's amazing work. It can be hard to be the nice guy all the time, but the eventual rewards are great.

I'll also note that there is no such thing as a happy cynic.

Even cynicism needs moderation, and being a cynic is little more than being skeptical.
