i just tweaked the level. Ctrl+L if you are on photoshop. you have a really strong and defined light source but you are not utilising it to the max because your overall piece is too dark.Β

and here ive added shadow "lines". im sure the exact term is not that but thats what im gonna call it. and its just a representation of the shadow the strong light source casts. think of it like the opposite of a light cone formed by a spotlight

details are great and ive just pointed the above two points so you can utilize the light work you did to the max.

(Sorry for the late answer)

Your input is invaluable like always, thank you very much, I saved everything no t only in my head.

It seems like a good way to me to keep most of my pics so dark for several reasons. Most of all, it is just laziness. But in terms of 40k, it also just fits so often. When I see a lot of old official 40k artworks, then they barely portray daylight scenarios. Another reason is that black or other dark backgrounds just seen to make the colors "pop" more. Even if they are not saturated very high, they still seem to "shine" or just stand out more. To the lazy part: It just frees me from spending an eternity by drawing detailed environments of course but it also is easy to hide little mistakes. Also it is easier to do some kind of final rendering when everything is done in terms of some final adjustments. I just orientate myself on the black then. I learned that it is not advised to use a "full" black or a "full" white at all because it is just too heavy and should only be used if yo really want to attract the spectator's eyes on some little detail. At least I've read that. And it makes a lot of sense to me. But when I simply use the full black as the base of everything, this whole game seems to change. I kinda like that but I should do what people that know more about this think is better more often.Β

Another thing is that I often forget to try and make the outlines less visible by coloring them at least turn down their opacity a little. I tends to look more likeΒ  a cheap comic then. Sometimes they aren't even needed at all and I erase them completely. Like for example, I try to get rid of all the outer outlines that are touching the background around the characters and then blur the outer parts just a tiny bit to make it look less artificial often. It kind of melts or combines itself with the surrounding better that way but can't be overdone, of course. Just a tine and narrow line of the character, nothing too broad or strong or it looks too blurry again.Β

I should invest more time into this again, there is just the oldest excuse in the world going on which is that I got too much important things too care about right now. I might tell what it is about but I can't do that for reasons you will understand once I told you. But it is important. I still feel very honored that you feel generous enough to waste some of your precious time on teaching me some important things along the line. I wish I could pay you back in any way. If you ever can think of anything just let me know, my friend.

Greetings, Naut.Β

its no biggie. it doesnt take much time and its great to see artists improve

and its no biggie if you cant spend too much time on an artwork. its just a drawing. never get too upset or overly invested about any aspect of it. its just art

good luck with whatever the important thing is.

The darker it is, the more mistakes I can hide in the black shadows.Β Β
