Introducing Sailor Venus, Senshi of Flesh, and Sailor Romulus, Senshi of Blood! (Yes, Romulus is a boy senshi! If you don't like the ide of a boy having the "sailor" title, feel free to think of him as Guardian Romulus or Romulus Knight. ^^)

Powers

As the senshi of (the pleasures of the) flesh, Venus's powers are a mix of physicality and perception. (Because I love unusual, literal interpretations of power spheres, I couldn't resist doing something of this nature with "flesh!")

Pound of Flesh - Venus calls out, "I'll have my pound of flesh!" as she kneels and places both her hands against the ground. A little shockwave ripples out across the ground around her. Any enemies within ten meters are affected. The closer an enemy is to Venus, the stronger the effect, so an enemy out at about ten meters won't be affected as much. Pound of Flesh causes enemies' bodies to become weak and heavy, slowing them and making it hard for them to move. Sort of like if all your flesh suddenly became much heavier and your muscles were weakened as well. A strong enemy might recover from this attack after a minute, but a weak one could be affected for a very long time. (Particularly a weak monster/youma, who might never recover!)

Allure of Venus - Sailor Venus stretches her right hand up above her and shouts, "The Allure of Venus, in the flesh!" An orb of orange light appears in her hand. Rays shoot out across the whole of the battlefield, bathing it in light. Any enemies within sight of this light become enraptured by Venus's visage, enthralled by her beauty, and helpless to move or act except to look at her. The power lasts for as long as Venus has the orb of light in her hand. She can keep it going for over a minute, but it starts to drain her energy if she does it for longer than 30-45 seconds.

Venus's counterpart Romulus governs the power sphere of Blood. Blood being so important to the human body, I thought it would be well-suited to a healing power, but I also wanted to do something literal with blood! ;D (I love gross powers!)

River of Blood - Romulus stretches his hands out in front of him, palms facing the enemy, and shouts, "Romulus claims a river of blood!" A torrent of blood shoots out, bathing whoever gets hit with it in blood! It's like being hit with a fire hose of blood. It can knock people down and make the battlefield all slippery. Once an enemy is covered in blood, Romulus can stretch out either his right or left hand towards the enemy. If the right hand, the blood becomes scalding hot and burns the enemt. If the left hand, the blood becomes freezing cold and slows the enemy down.

Blood Brother - If someone is wounded, Romulus can heal them by holding his hands over their heart. A warmth spreads out from his hands across the person, healing their wounds. He can only use this power on someone whose heart is still pumping; if their heart has stopped, he is powerless to help. For the next three to four minutes, any damage taken by the person Romulus healed will be inflicted upon Romulus instead.

Venus and Romulus also have a combined power.

Flesh and Blood - Venus and Romulus strand together and hold hands. In unison, they call out, "Powers of Venus Unite, Flesh and Blood!" A pillar of light surrounds them, shooting up into sky, so powerful it pushes aside the clouds. It weakens any enemies and heals allies, but it is so powerful, that once they have done it, neither of them has the energy to do anything else, and it can result in them detransforming if they have been using their other powers a lot before the do it.

Development Notes

I close to do Venus/Romulus because I'm a huge Roman Empire nut. Romulus and Remus were the mythic twins raised by a she-wolf who founded the city of Rome, which later became the empire of Rome! Seriously, I cannot express to you how much I love ancient Rome. If I had a time machine, that's where I'd go. I love the culture, the fashion, the stories, the language, the decadence, the religions, even the dirt and grit and mud of the place. Ancient Rome, as beautiful to me as it was brutal!

I knew right off the bat I wanted to do both a male and a female senshi. I know some people feel males can't be senshi, it's not exactly canon, but I personally like the variety of having both genders be senshi. I also wanted to give it a bit of a sci-fi aesthetic, because I'm probably as big a scifi nut as I am and ancient Rome fanatic. <3

For the powers, Venus is of course the senshi of love and beauty, but I want to build off that and do something more original with it. I started by thinking about what Romulus might be senshi of, as he's connected to Venus. Since love is tied to sex, I kind of thought about how blood rushes to various parts of the body in lovemaking? So I decided to use blood for his power base. Then "flesh and blood" popped into my head and I realized it was perfect! Because beauty (the kind Venus is known for) is all about beauty of the flesh! And love is the pleasures of the flesh! Thus they became the senshi of Flesh and Blood.

I incorporated orange into both their fukus as a tie-in to the original Sailorvenus because her fuku was orange. I also gave Romulus her coloration -- blonde hair, blue eyes. But I wanted to do something different for my Sailor Venus, so I made her darker-skinned. I also gave her a wreath braid for her hairstyle because I think wreath braids are just the loveliest hairstyle, and you can draw braids like littls hearts! (Though mine looks like little lumps. XD)

It didn't occur to me until I started typing this up, but I actually have a couple otaku senshi with blood-based powers. Mictlan Mask is a senshi based on the Aztec god of blood, and he in turn was based on a villain I once played, Captain Hematite, but I was really aiming to do a blood senshi in a different sense this time, to stick with the idea of the themes expressed above. So Romulus's powers are very different from Mictlan and Hematite's! (Though I might use one of both of those powers for Mictlan if he levels up to Super/Eternal.)

The shape of the brooches/lockets is a cross between a heart and a V (for Venus), resulting in a kind of angular heart/chunky-V shape. I repeated V shapes throughout the fuku, as cutouts on sleeves, gloves, and collar, and boots, and with the lines on the bodysuit.

Overall, I tried to make them very similar so they appear to be part of the same team. I also wanted them to be different, like how the original senshi can have different gloves, boots, or sleeves, while still having the same basic outfit. (Plus, one is a male fuku and one's female!) I wanted Romulus to be a bit less than Venus, because I consider him to be sort of a lesser senshi compared to her -- like how Phobos and Deimos were lesser senshi compared to the original Sailormars. So Venus has a few extra frills on hers, like her boots and her two loose front ribbons. (The ribbons around the arms are my version of a bow!) Venus's transformation pen is a bit bigger than Romulus's, and has bigger wings on it, and her earrings are fancier than Romulus's.

I hope I didn't make them too different! Overall I think they work very well together. <3

They both have 5+ of the fuku items from the list, and both include tiaras and sailor collars. (Though Romulus's collar is offset and has a cape back to emulate Tuxedo Mask's cape.)
