I guessed—from hints which made even my informant pause timidly—the secret behind the Magellanic Clouds and globular nebulae, and the black truth veiled by the immemorial allegory of Tao. The nature of the Doels was plainly revealed, and I was told the essence (though not the source) of the Hounds of Tindalos. The legend of Yig, Father of Serpents, remained figurative no longer, and I started with loathing when told of the monstrous nuclear chaos beyond angled space which the Necronomicon had mercifully cloaked under the name of AZATHOTH."

The final god of my Lovecraft series, the primeordial chaos, the formless void, the endless Dreamer, Azathoth. I love the idea that, as the ultimate god over everything and nothing, a never satisfied eater and, according to Lovecraft, a formless monstrous being, designwise he was inspired by small, almost innocent appearing deep sea slugs. Yet as he is a thing that goes beyond the logic and physics of our 5 dimensions and our perception of reality, the only way for me to design him was by including an optical illusion, an impossible object so to say. Thats how I ended up designing the "circle" that is Azathoth at the same time as an orb and as a tunnel, depending on how you wanna see it.
