it wasn't abnormal for Aster to fall asleep on her bedroom floor rather than in her bed; she often fell asleep in many odd places.

She almost never dreamed. She slept a deep and silent sleep.

Tonight her mind's eye roiled with strangely bright lights and colored smoke, blurry faces with too-bright eyes peeking out at her.

"You haven't done enough" she heard, though she didn't know who was speaking. Was it even spoken out loud?

"You haven't earned your worth yet."

Everything dipped into a strange din, deafening yet silent at the same time. Aster knew it was a dream, she'd fallen asleep among the fabric scraps and loose threads that constantly stayed scattered across her floor. This didn't even register as a nightmare to her.

It was a reminder.
