I'm leaving the story out, yet again.Have patience with me - this is the first painting of this kind I've ever made. A first time thing, in more than one way :]
I really -had- to use references for the background, and I hope it came out okay. It was a true challenge

sargent's tennebrism and motion mixed with hopper's use of color and light ... and a little flair of this one of Joan of Arc they've got in the Met (artist's name escapes me, but it's quite famous) comes across in the calves and arms. and i mean that in a very, very good way. it sucks how no one really paints anymore ... wonderful to see that there's at least someone keeping it alive.

for a first time thing, Id prolly argue that youd have to have had some kind of practice in the past, or in a previous life, cause for a first time thing, that is excellent!

Wow.... that's really inspiring. I love the movement and the contrasting shadows...and how the eye is drawn both down the cooridor and to the figure. It's like each time I look at it I see a different picture--and yet it's one and the same. Awesome stuff.

i love the shadow behind her. and i love the detail in the backgound, the way you can almost see the garden through the arch. the dust rising from the stones. breathtaking
